Because our robotics club has such a varied age selection i am basing all of our projects on Dupont connectors. this is because soldering irons represent a hazard in a crowded classroom. So i am seeking any dupont related tools and expendables. the kids will go thru a lot of these so i predict i'll need to restock often.
You can buy dupont connectors already crimped and with a certain length of cable already on it, might be better for kids?
Sure i have ordered some of those. this is more of an ongoing ISO We have them but they're expendables so we'll need more on a recurring basis. So basically if you have extras and don't want to throw them out i'll take them kind of thing.

I certainly appreciate it. I'll be sure to show how they will be used in our builds. The sharing of builds is i think a critical part of inspiring others. There's a slight brag aspect. See what i did! But when you follow that with this is how! I'll show you so you can do it too. It transforms into the basis of teaching. Knowledge is the one thing you can give away freely and still have!
I understand completely, I was a prof at Niagara College Canada for a few years, (funny enough at the same time I was a full time student teaching computer graphics while taking Electronics engineering) and probably learned more from my students than from my profs.
I know I have an extra crimp tool somewhere, I am just having trouble finding it. Once it gets out of the witness relocation program, I will drop it in the mail to you.
Thank you for your support. It certainly helps. Even just verbal support helps. Especially when you are trying to start from scratch. I just got back from Maker Faire and it was both exciting and daunting. Those kids are so advanced! My kids have all of that potential too but we've not kindled it before. So it seems like a big mountain to climb. But im starting to collect Allies and i can feel a momentum building so that helps when the doubt strikes.
Hi Jose, I've been "instructing" six neighborhood kids with building 3d printers. Not anything real formal, we just gather in my workshop Saturday mornings. I show them what I did to the printer project that week - why I selected those parts - and then we add those parts to their printers. To do this, I've been buying lots of parts for these projects and I've been able to amass a large supply of the parts needed to build those. If there is anything else you need, please PM me. Thank you so much. we just started this year so im having the kids focus on small spider robots that im calling a gateway drug into robotics. there are older kids that are interested in the 3d printers so im working on a project for them. i'm not ready for it yet but ill definitely revisit it semester 2. i just introduced them to arduinos and the idea of coding so theres much bedrock work to do. your project seems awesome. in my neighborhood theres a kind of taboo about interacting with kids. im not comfortable in that space. but in the school theres learning infrastructure i can rely on. i almost want to bring my workshop to the school but theres no room. theres nothing kids can't do with a little handholding and some external motivation/inspiration. id say the cheerleading may be more important in some respects.

The kit arrived. today. it's a great assortment too. i also got a lot of my delayed chinese orders at the same time. maybe they shared a boat ride. but i now have the rough electronic modules, wiring and connectors for at least 50 spiders. accounting for the magic smoke learning process we should reach our goal of 22 game ready spiders. thanks again for the help. ill keep updating the spider build thread with the kids progress. depending on how quickly we finish the spider project the second part of the year will be free form projects so the kids will get turned loose on my parts library.
