When using these with the plates that you sell and this what length is needed? I have four hundred drop in tee nuts so I need to get the length right as I don't wish to have excess screws and have wasted my money. I will be using the Low Profile Screws M5.
8mm for every plate, and motor mount, then? The tabs I just do not see how 10mm is needed because the tabs don't run the entire length.
Well, this is what I don't get as I have yet to buy any of this but I have my order being made (hence this thread) but don't the tabs go into the channel? If it was on the sides of the channel, so you turned it 90º, how would that even stably work?
You got it, so you HAVE to file the tabs. So 8mm screws it will be edit: too many smileys, it will give cancer to someone...
LOL. What I am trying to figure out is why 10mm is even brought up, not just by you, since you would have to file the tabs so it seems the tabs shouldn't even come into the equation or am I wrong?
I use 8mm when attaching the bracket to those nuts in the v slot. The 10mm is if you are attaching it to a flat plate with a regular nylock nut and you don't file the nubs. I used 10 mm even though I did file the nubs.
My plates were 6.35mm and the angled bracket is 2.85 mm with nub sanded down and 3.75 with nub still on (according to my caliper just now) so I chose 12 mm for that application and I always sanded the nubs off where fastened to a plate. I mis-spoke when I said I used 10 mm. If you are using the thinner build plates (3mm), then 10 mm screws are adequate since a little over 3 mm will be in the nuts if the nub is not filed. Sorry if I confused the situation.

If you plan to use them like my image below the 8mm low profile M5s work perfectly. If you plan to rotate this 90 degrees plan to file those silly index tab things off and still use 8mm low profile M5s. If you plan to mount one of these to a plate (eg. C-Beam plate) file the tabs off and use 8mm low profile M5s. The 10mm option is too long and will poke out the other side and has the potential to leave marks on the aluminium inside the slot. It is also too long to use this style of cast corner on the thicker plates (C-Beam plates) as it still protrudes out the back of the plate.
So, what I was referring to was when you slide the 5mm screw though a hole on a plate and through the hole on the bracket and into a nut like when you are using it on a gantry like the ox. An example would be the plate connected to the gantry beam below (to the left of the router). You can see 4 of the brackets that are additional bracing where the x-beam meets the gantry plates. you can tell I sanded off the nubs where the bracket meets the plate.
Well, I guess 8mm will be fine as the plates are 3mm thick and if 8mm isn't long enough then I have a Dremel and I am not afraid to use it either, lol. Thanks guys. btw That picture is too small to see any tabs or really any detail but that lower one is one of the two motor mounts I am buying and they are 3mm thick.
