Wow, had no idea the video link would load up. Just mentioned it for referance. Nice set up on site. Usually it's a PIA to add attachments when you want to on other sites.
Cool, I have a technique named after me! I have not tried it yet in practice, but when i do if the thickness issue is a problem I plan on using carbon fiber strips to build up the 0.045" that maybe required. Just have to order my extrusions, hopefully next week. Gary
??Build up the .045? I thought the problem was tape being to thick and wheels not having enough track left to ride in?
Some say tape can be too thick but some tape too thin as well, there is a sweet spot. I think there is a tolerance stack up, some wheel, track and belt differences may alter the thickness needs for dual-belt (double-belt).
Odd, I'll have to look into why. I thought the x gantry plate assembly was the same as a one belt system. If it can work on one belt how could any dbl belt system be to thin?
With one belt the belt is not being sandwiched down against anything, with dual belts the wheels press the upper belt into engagement with the lower glued or taped down belt. I hope we are talking about the same thing sorry if we are not.
I may not understand exactly what you mean by the need to maybe shim up .045 or where the shim is going but that is the dbl belt setup I'm thinking of.
Hi, I'm interested how one would normally figure out what's needed? I started looking at the 48V power supplies and specs for watts and amps provide several choices. I saw a 48v, 400watt, 8.3 amp unit paired with a g540 on an ebay bundle. I'm assuming this would be a good choice but not sure why.
Search Tab is your friend! Should have tried there before posting above message. Electronics 101. Thank Tweakie! So motor 4 23hd or 3+1 standard 12a at 48v / 576w max Using the 2/3 rule 8a at 48v / 384w So 48v - 8.3a - 400w volt psu covers that So 16w - .333a of power left if running as hard as it can. Next newbie thought is other power needed. How much power needed for everything else? Control boards, switching, ect.. is that enough extra to avoid starving controls, ect. for power? Thanks in advance. I hope all the newbie questions aren't to annoying.
The control board draws from the same source as the motor drivers. You might want to install more PS depending on other components. For instance, I have a small 5v wallwart transformer for my ESS board and a 24v brick for limit switches.
Thanks, I've seen the 5v transform boards on a few videos drawing from main ps. Is a 24 brick doing the same or a separate ps also not sure (I think I know) what a ESS is. Thanks
ESS in short is an Ethernet cable to lpt pins. I have a seperate little 120V to 5V wall transformer for it. It was laying around collecting dust before that.
Hi, Time for an update. The plan changed a bit. After a few planning sessions at the "office" (local bar) with my project superintendent. The first plan was to build an average size ox then use that to build parts for a larger build. He would use one and the other would get set up in my shop - garage. So the discussion turned to why not build one c-beam plate maker style and then the big ox. Two machines with different talents. The more we talked (drank) the more it made sense so the vote was taken and project revision approved! The big c-beam seemed like to much and the original not enough so the drinki....thinking continued. So about 790mm wide x with some linear rails to keep things stiff, 625mm y with beam rolled over to keep screw clean and 275mm z wanted to handle 1 1/2" stock ocassionaly. Thought is to use a 2nd layer of spoiler board on thin stock so z stays stiff on thin stock. Have all parts I think needed and some assembly started. Soon I'll start a build page.
