TrueUP Glide

    Ah! I never thought of using the screw itself for a tap. I may try that on a 6mm leadscrew and print the nut in Nylon. I'm using nylon nuts for the 6mm & 8mm threaded rods which are easy to find and have no backlash. But haven't found any for leadscrews that size with a single start.

    I just printed the nut_8mm4start2mm.stl leadscrew with 4 starts by silyavskiin with pla and it's a perfect fit for the openbuilds Tr8*8-2p (4 starts) leadscrew. SOooo, the nut_8mm2start2mm.stl should work for JustinTime 's Aliexpress 8mm screw 2mm pitch just fine.

    Still looking for 6mm 1 pitch leadscrew nut....

    Hello Keith,

    I love your design and i want to build one but my need is to have a 40cm x 40cm x 40cm print volume.....So do i need to multiply the size by 2 and using the same stepper motor and electronics or do you know a model like yours with the build volume that i want ??

    Structurally I think that would work. There are a couple of printed parts you'd need to change though concerning the controller box and PSU

    Download the fully assembled SKP, stretch the extrusions out and move things around. The printer is assembled in that one SKP and all the parts are in that SKP

    Great looking build! I think I might build one with an extended Y using a 300x200mm heat bed! Also might redesign the glide bodies and print them in nylon. Tap the m8 screw nut into the body and maybe design one of the two bushings into the body as well.

    Keith, did you recently say you weren't sold on using full steps on the Z yet? I thought this was crucial part of your design to eliminate micro stepping?

    The reason for two nylon glides is that the body is not centered with the Z rail by the glides, it is centered by the Z screw. The glides are moved by the setting screw on each side to maintain the body where the screw oriented it.

    Although full step is a little noisier, I am going back to using it to guarantee that the first layer starts on a full step. With the MKS-Gen that is no jumpers on the Z axis. At first you may think you've screwed up when you try to Home Z, the #define HOMING_FEEDRATE for Z needs to be reduced - mine was 4*60, I changed it to 3*60.

    Printing the last changed item. I actually changed a half dozen pieces to make assembly easier (and make explaining assembly easier o_O ). Need to do the manual so it corresponds to the packaging per steps. Should be Mar 1.

    Great, looking forward to seeing it come together.

    Now back to licking my wounds.... My furnace quit a week ago and after an emergency repair to get it going, it was also discovered that the heat exchanger was cracked, so a new furnace was the answer. To add to the misery, I figured I might as well replace the air conditioner while we were at it. 2 hit and run damages on my car in a parking lot and new prescription drugs for the Mrs. not covered by our insurance and my financials are bleeding red! <sigh>

    Oh well, at least I have the parts for the OneZ that STILL is not finished...... gah!

    I think I'll get a 6 pack and celebrate tonight - my luck's not nearly as bad as yours. I'll even drink one on you!

    Keith, I just bought the 8mm threaded rod from my hardware store, They are 8mm x 1mm pitch, If it is 1:1, shouldn't I use the same pulley on each end?
    The other 8mm I see listed as "coarse" and is 1:1.25 which makes the 20 tooth / 16 tooth make sense.

    Correct. I use M6 1mm pitch on the Onez with not gear reduction. I used 8mm on the TrueUp simply because they are more exposed on this design.

    I use the coarse 1.25 pitch because I could find nylon nuts for it to embed in the glide brackets. The nylon nuts provide zero backlash. Can you find the "fine" 1mm pitch nuts?

    Not yet, but the steel nuts on my Mendel Max XL have never been an issue.
    I am looking to print some nylon and us the treaded shafts as taps, if I can't find premade nuts.
    For some reason, the hardware stores around here don't seem to have the1.025 pitch.

    Any chance the 3 long parts have been remodeled so they will print on most printers? They won't print on a 2800 printable space Rostock V2 delta. If you have done this, can you please post the .stl's. It is holding up our TrueUp build. If you don't have them, I guess we will have to 2D the sketchup models and laser cut acrylc for them.

    Thanks. I will split these and get them printing. I was going to do that, but didn't know if yours was going to have locking tabs or ??

    These may be helpful to for a DIY build. It is a pla bushing with a nylon insert. Get a 5/16" nylon 6/6 rod (ebay, amazon, etc). Cut a 36mm section. Place that in the pla bushing's recess. The round surface of the rod cams against the 45 degree V slot of the extrusion. The advantage (other than not having to print nylon) is that it will be easy to adjust the width of the pla bushing for a slop-less fit in the glide body cavity.

    Well.... see.... finding a point to say "OK, stop changing things HERE!" is not easy. Maybe I need a wife.....:blackeye:

    But, I did the next best thing. I sold one already and need to ship Wednesday. It's the assembled one to proof out all the changes. I'm printing the last two pieces now.

    Was the $500 to repair the Mrs or the dishwasher? I hope it was the dishwasher!!!

    Sigh.... I've been looking at new dishwashers.... the Mrs. is fine, but $500 was overly optimistic. It's going to be more like $800 including taxes and an extended warranty. I don't normally buy extended warranties, but our current dishwasher blew an o-ring just past the 12 month mark. Whirlpool only sells the entire bottom pan including the motor if that o-ring fails, for a measly $480 + labour and taxes. Thankfully, there was a way to work around it.... This time, the bent door is going to make it a replace only sort of thing.

    This kit you are planning on... is it a complete "everything you need is in the box" sort of kit, or is it just the basic plastic bits plus the extrusions or something like that?

    And yes... there's always "one more thing" you'd like to fix.... Set a date and lock it in.... then, start working on 2.0 while shipping v 1.0. If you come up with something that absolutely should have been done in v 1.0, you could release an upgrade "kit" when you start shipping v2.0 to new customers.

    Problem with an update kit - picture the bean can display in the grocery store, stacked as a pyramid. Invariably the update piece is one of those bottom cans, it's not a "just replace that with this".

    The kit I'm planning includes all parts & pieces. Some things will have pre-assembly, wires soldered to heat bed, holes drilled in extrusions and build plate, wheel bags with correct screws & spacers/eccentrics, embedded nuts press fit into printed pieces, etc. Basically, anything that requires special tools. The main thing is I want Kits that will always work when assembled (Only God knows how many 3D printer kits never get finished or never print right when finished. Online forums indicate a high percentage.)

    One of the problems with a DIY BOM is that half the sources are out or out of business the week after you publish a BOM unless you reference the Chinese manufacturer, which is 4 to 6 weeks out on delivery. Later, I may offer just a parts kit - or - just a printed piece kit. Either way, that's down the road.

    I am mulling over several builds in trying to determine how I will build my own. I have limited access to a 3d printer and I am not sure if it is capable of printing nylon well. That being said, I have a large chunk of 3/4 inch delrin. I was thinking of milling what would be the nylon bushings with my CNC using the STL file. Thoughts?

    I finished my build of the TrueUp Glide. The build went well, will be testing and doing prints this weekend.
    It will get a wide range of filament thrown at it including some flexible filaments I've been wanting to use. Will be packing it up for the 8 hour drive to Goshen for the 2017 MRRF. ;-) I'll post pics of competed printer this weekend. Thanks for he help Keith.
