Ok Everyone. This is what all of you have been waiting for. ReKindle is our new Kickstarter Project. With this you will be able to refill all kinds of Cube Cartidges (Cube3, Cubepro, CubeX and Ekocycle) ReKindle A Filament Refill System for Cube 3D Printers by Doug Abraham — Kickstarter We need feedback from the communitiy before we start.
That's a good way to go, eychei. You might consider changing the name "Cube 3rd" to "Cube 3". Why not fabricate the unit for the price of admission? A first run should be quite reasonable for a known build quantity. This will open up a lot more sales as people don't really want to mess with making PCB's. I know this from the flashlight world. You might consider another partner if production doesn't sound like fun to you. I am sure someone here is familiar with productizing this. You will get a lot better response for a complete system. Or is there still some doubt as to the legality of handing a solution to people?
@Tom Dirriwachter You mean Cube 3rd in the intro? We are evaluating the pricing right now. There is also the legal side of sending out fully assembled hardware. We are looking into this also. When I talk about "WE" I mean 3Guys. @doug abraham @Kiza @eychei So in your opinion sending out fully assembled hardware is the way to go?
Hi Doug! The Cube is normally referred to as "Cube 3" followed on by 3rd generation... blah blah blah... I should have read better but yes, I missed the part where you get the fully tested unit ...and the other stuff I think the proposal is reasonable.
Let me ask a question The program and pcb design are ready? May I send money to you and get the plans and the software now? I can make the pcb and biuld by my self
Hi, We have several prototypes right now running, but they are all hand made. We are working on a PC board and enclosure right now. Once we get all of the dimensions correct for ease of building, then we will order PC boards. The software needs some tweaking, but it is functional. I think we want the Kickstarter program to be fulfilled before we ship any devices or plans. Doug
So, I own new unprogrammed DS28E01 chips like the ones than came with the cartidges, may I will programs those with you tool?
I own clean DS28e01 chips , never programed, could the box create new cartidge chip over this blanc chips?
Hi, Sorry for the delay. No these should not work I would think. Off the shelf DS28E01-100s probably have a different manufacturer number than 3D systems. Doug
Can you read the eight byte ID code of the chip? If you can you do not have to send one. The manufacturer ID 3D uses is 0x2F As far as cube 2nd, I am sure we can at some point, but we are focused on 3rd and Pro models for now. We do plan to expand to more devices. What is a DS2? Doug
Posted for your convenience: ReKindle A Filament Refill System for Cube 3D Printers: CubePro, CubeX and Cube3 Also, let me know if you want me to betatest on the CubeX Cheers!
Not sure if this has been asked or answered. But would it be possible to use this to change what filament type the cube see's that cartridge as? Eg. Abs cart rewritten as a pla cart.
Just to let you guys know, the "proof of concept video" on the kickstarter review doesn't play on Windows 7 on IE11. I've downloaded it from the Cube3 link in MP4 and it is just 46mb of green-screen.
Just an update, We have built the first three complete prototypes. These units have a PCB which we manufactured and a 3D printed cover. the software needs a few tweaks, but it is fully operational on Win 7 pro and 10 home. We will need to check more Windows versions. Check out the updated kickstarter. Now that everything appears to work ok, we plan to submit the kickstarter very soon.
I have win 7 pro 64 and I was able to play it. We will make another video soon showing the latest prototype and latest GUI.
And its live! Backer #3 here Place your orders! ReKindle A Filament Refill System for Cube 3D Printers
Sorry the Kickstarter didn't get funded, guys. If there was ever a campaign that deserved it, this was it. Do you have any plans to sell the DIY kit from the Kickstarter on eBay? All I need is the BOM, schematic and software package. I can source the parts and board myself.
I know this is old, but wanted to ask if you got a response, if so is it to late to get the data to keep developing this idea? ...even for a fair price maybe?
