Hi I’m running a Makita router with my CNC. Will it be problematic to run the power cable alongside signal cables? The stepper cables are shielded but the signal cables are not. I’m a bit concerned about the possibility of interference. How have you solved this? Thanks, Andreas
I had an EMI problem with my Makita router and solved it by running a ground wire from the outer metal case of the Makita to the "ground pole" of a three-prong plug, then pluging that into my plug strip along with everything else - creating sort of a "Star" grounding. (While I was at it, I also attached another ground wire from the machine frame to the same pole.) You can get a cheap 3-prong plug body at any hardware store. For the Makita, I just crimped a ring connector to a wire and attached it with one of the screws near the top of the case. Anyway, this worked for me.
You can replace the makita cable very easily take the top cover off and there are screw terminals, replace the cable with shielded 2 conductor of 18 awg, use the drain lead to ground the case of the makita to an earth ground.
@Gary Caruso That does indeed sound like an easy solution. The cable needed to be extended anyway... Edit: Is 18 enough? Online calculators seem to recommend 14. Edit 2: A second search seems like 18 should be a good fit for the Makita.
