I don't know yet. I'm going to start firing things up this weekend. I'm not sure if the laser will loose so much power that it won't cut in the furthest corners or not. During the mirror alignment process I could easily pierce a hole at all 4 corners but we'll see.
Hi!, I can chime in a little here. I have replaced the standard controller to a Cohesion3D board (direct drop in and Smoothie compatible). There are various software solutions that work with it eg. Laserweb. You could keep the standard board (if it's a m2nano) and use K40 Whisperer . So.. there are choices and it's easy..
I use a smoothieware controller. It works really well. The software I use is Adobe cs straight to laserweb. Look them both up. They are the best open source combination out there.
I've considered this idea as well. There are a few issues though. As far as mounting the tube on the spindle, you'd end up with a large mass that would be difficult to keep stable. The tube is 700 mm long so all of that would be moving around. But as far as gutting the machine, that is what I did first.
This is pretty close to what I was planning on doing. The thing I was wondering about is are you not scared about the melamine catching fire?....I was thinking about covering the inside with like 24ga. Sheet metal. Have you've had any issues?
