As everyone else that has posted....this design and build looks very good. Now that I've seen this build I sure would like to have a machine like this. I just started reading through the discussion posts as well as everything else and I'm wondering if there is a list of materials and components including electronics and motors somewhere amongst everything here?

MUCH higher than one of OpenBuilds "kits". So best to go with a kit, than to buy all the parts and build one; if price is your limit. One caveat. You will have to settle for things you may not want and possibly be frustrated with, when you say, "If I had only thought it out better". Think it out carefully; there is probably no rush.

I chose to buy the parts. It is very high. Approaching $3500.00 now. So I am exceedingly blessed in having the money without strain; to go for "full bore". Not recommended for most budgets. But I am loving every minute of it. Thankfully, it did NOT come from me..............I assure you! Remember, He turned 2 small fishes and 5 loaves of bread; and turned it into enough food to feed 5,000 people; AND...................when they were done filling their bellies, they gathered up 12 baskets full of food! Believe it or not!

As part of job as an engineer I estimated costs for fabricating machined parts for the medical industry. I also managed the build as well the design of a robotics de-burring and polishing system for jet engine components along with part transfer systems for an automotive manufacturer. So I like think I can put a pretty close value on machine components. I do lack extensive experience with electronics though.

My estimate was around $4000 which is something I can handle. So if I can come in under that even better. If it's a little over I can handle that too.

This build is looking like something I'm going to go with.

I am not an engineer. Just a lowly electronics technician for 45 yrs (now retired 21 yrs). I am having some real problems in understanding G-code and the other newer state of technology mandatory for CNC. I would hope I could ask you some questions when you get yours built.

I have some pictures of how far I am as of this moment if you care to see the build in its infancy. I will be making more this coming week. As I have a bunch more parts that were delayed in shipping.

Another friend from DIYAudio convinced me I could build a Tubelab.com SSE tube amp since I built a Tubes4HiFi.com VTA ST-120 Dynaco type tube amp from a kit. A year later I'm still working on it. Electronics baffle me.

 

Hey Michael, I was wondering what router you bought to mount on your machine? I want to build my own cnc mill right now too. I am looking for a router I can mount that will take an end mill that can cut aluminum. I was curious if you had any thoughts.
