I ended up test fitting the carriages on the cbeams and basically snug them up then back them off until movement is smooth. Start with the inner most wheels and work your way out.

 

Hey thanks for stopping by. If you click on my profile and view my original Sphinx build, you'll see the vslot and wheels transmission is quite capable. I had theses rails before I built the Sphinx. I figured I might as well try to incorporate them.

 

I actually just milled some cast iron with my vslot machine last night! There's some pictures in the 7050 Sphinx discussion. In the end, yes the rails are more rigid but I think you'll experience deflection in other areas before you have problems with the vslot and wheels.

Yeah, i did mill the plates using the Sphinx and I'm really enjoying working on the new parts because there's really no pressure to get them done. With the original Sphinx, i couldn't wait to get that thing cutting! I'm really enjoying this new project but, of course, i now need more tools.

 

I tried to incorporate ballscrews with the Sphinx but ended up designing a completely different machine. I think the way I used ballscrews with cbeams could actually be used on the Sphinx. Check it out.

Hey this weekend I will take a look at my Granite and Sphinx models. The Y axis end plates will work for sure and I think the Y axis gantry plates will work also. The one thing you have to keep in mind is that in order to install a 16mm ballscrew in the cbeam, you have to remove / unpack the ballnut and grind some of the flanges down. I think some ballscrew suppliers will actually do this for a little more money. It's not the most difficult thing to do but it does require some patience when repacking them.
