Okay folks, I’m new here so go easy on me. I own a Makerspace in Edmonton Alberta Canada, we have all kinds of woodworking equipment, welding, cutting etc. I want to build a 4x8 CNC router quickly and I need plans. We have a CNC Milling machine for metal, we can cut anything up to titanium with it, we also have a metal Lathe so along with the welding we can build pretty much anything here. This will be a roller chain drive for the gantry, what I would like is a design for the gantry supports, I am thinking about cutting these out of 1/2 aluminum plate on the CNC Milling Machine. Does anyone have any good designs that I can scale to work???
This might sound really disrespectful, but what's the point of having all of that tech without having the technical design background (or interest) to fully utilize it? Roller chains are also terrible due to backlash. Plus, no one can help you without knowing what your goals are.
Who said i don’t have the technical design background? I’m an electronics technologist, and millwright. We use Fusion 360 for cad and Cam and our Mill runs Mach 3 which i use everyday.
What i want is for our members to have a machine they can use for doing basic and intermediate work on, not making the Mona Lisa here. Will also be used for cutting out plywood for some light production work, +/- 1/16”
When I said what I said, I didn't mean degrees, profession, or computer know how. I meant drive. Only you know what you have in front of you. This is a good opportunity to design something for your specific need. Your op says "give me a design" instead of "help me with a design." You still haven't mentioned what linear motion you have (or want). What about z clearance? What about the base materials (wood, extrusion, sheet steel)? Side note: I just started playing with AutoCad and man it's so much easier to draft in than F360.
None of those machines hold a candle compared to anything here. This is also a 2 year old thread from someone that never cared to learn.
Gotta love review sites where the only reason the product is there with a "review" is that the "reviewer" gets paid for any purchases made by people clicking the link.
