Moag submitted a new resource: Chinese Spindle & VFD Setup - Making sense of setting up a Chinese Spindle & VFD without the grief. Read more about this resource...
great read so thanks for the guide.. just wondering if you have connected the vfd to your cnc controller board so you can activate it on the computer? ive got he cnc xpro2 so it would be good to control it off the pc if possible
Thank sunil, no I just flick on the the power switch in my setup and push run and adjust the speed to what I calcuated for the Gcode job, to keep it simple for me.
@mong Just followed your guide and for the spindle spinning! On you guide, it say s check PD 177 to 180 however i got these messages pd177 p178 pd179 pd180 Any ideas what they mean?? Thanks in advance
G'Day @sunil, not being a distributor or manufacturer of these, I can only guess... pd177 - ELun means?? Low voltage at constant run speed pd178 - ELud means?? Low voltage at deceleration pd179 & 180 - EErn ???? don't know, but for other EE errors, they suggest to send it back to the factory. So all I can suggest is, make sure the VFD and spindle is rated for your countries voltage check it's wired correctly with suitable wire all the suggested PDs are set as they should be While you're at it, go into PD172 and set to 01 to clear the recorded faults in PD 177,178,179 &180 Turn it off at the power point and give it a couple of minutes before turning it on again. give it a run without cutting anything and check for errors again. Record the error/s again if they are still present in PD 177, 178, 179 & 180. If still present post them here and we will go to the next step. Let us know how you go...
Another thought if you're in a country with 120volt mains power you will have to set PD008 to [120] not 220 as shown in the how to guide.
Morning or evening for you @Moag Yes I've read up that the first 2 are due to low voltage but i have read that it could be solved by swapping one of the input poles.. I shall let you know soon of it works
yes cold rainy morning here in Leicester in the UK, where are you from Moag? ive got a 1.5kw air cooled spindle and a 2.2kw vfd i have swapped the input into the vfd as i read last night that 'T' should be used as the neutral and 'R' as the live and now no error messages stored in pd178 to 180
Summer here, south-eastern Australia (Bairnsdale, Vic)... Glad to hear it's all sorted mate, you have a good but wet day.
Am new here and doing research ahead of purchases so was pleased to be directed to this post from various workbee builds, particularly, fwm891. Very grateful. Will reply on specific build, but this has some great suggestions including earthing and shielding, air v water, minimum spin speeds plus useful internet links. If you arrive here suggest you keep a copy of document.
If you are still interested, MakerGeek on youtube explains how he controls his spindle through the computer: and I also found another example here by Luke's Garage, with more info in the video description:
