    hello open builds forum

I recently built a CNC based off of the sphinx design and used NEMA 23 Hi torque steppers with Xpro v3 controller, I’m having an issue with the steppers making a load humming sound while at idle is these normal to experience?

You'll need stepper motor drivers shown at DQ542MA Stepper Motor Driver because the max amount of current draw is 2.5A on the Xpro controller.

Also check your grbl settings, I'm guessing $1=255 - if that is so then the motors are always locked. If you wish to unlock them, make this number smaller, like 25.

And yes, that controller is not going to be able to fully power those motors.

    Thank you for the reply
Are these controllers meant to be wired with the Xpro ?
if so how would One do so, is there a diagram that can indicate the correct way of wiring them up?
Would I need additional parts other than comptrollers such as power supplie?

I'm on the road but in short, the xpro is the controller. It controls the stepper motor direction, and provides power. The max power per stepper is 2.5amps max. The high torque stepper needs more than that, but should work.

If you are using the settings for the sphinx build you want 1/8 microstepping which I believe means you set your dip switches to 1600 pulse/rev settings.

Thank you for the reply I have my dip setting to 1600 but When jogging the machine 100 mm it only travels about 20mm This is the same for every axis Is this a wiring issue or a setting issue
