Has anyone been successful in drilling one side of a flex coupler? I changed from a nema 17 to a nema 23 on my Z and the shaft size goes from 5mm to 1/4". I am stuck until one comes in, but sitting here I started wondering if this one can be drilled. I also noticed that this one only has one screw on each end and I thought the video showed a set screw to catch the flat of the motor shaft, as well as one to pinch the coupler to the round part of the shaft. Any ideas guys? I was ready to finish the assembly and ??? I know - That gratification delayed thing again. LOL
Yes it can be done, go slow, use sharp bit and only half way. Don't hold it with your hand as it will pinch your fingers when the flex pulls tight..... Trust me lol
Worked like a champ! Now I gotta go get 3 more longer screws to get the Z axis nema 23 mounted and I'm home free for that part. BTW, I locked it in a pair of vise grips and set it flat on my drill press table and drilled away. The hole in the lower half is 13mm, so when drilling from the top you just go until it frees up.
