    Nice work Serge!
You might add a/my Router mounting kit.
I suppose a/my dust collection kit could come under vacuum system, but you could have it as a separate line.

I will definitely add line items for such kits. It is part of one of the few sections which I need to breakdown into much finer details (like the screw count - my next priority for this project).

In fact, for the various plates and mounts, like those you mention, my goal is to let the user of OXcalculator pick and choose amongst the known options, especially if I have at least a good cost estimate. The user will have to allow for some variations depending on exact model/version of, say, the router mount).

I should have a fair bit done over the weekend. The OXcalculator would then be much more useful to some (especially the new comers like myself).

For now, I have to enjoy the sun and warm weather (read : yard duty !)

I have added the router/spindle mount soon after the reminder, but the rest will take a bit longer (break down the screw count and such) as I have spent time trying to square myOX (and helping publishing 60 some iBooks for a local small publisher).

Thanks. Will try to tweak so it can handle as many situations as possible and maybe get updates as new stuff becomes available (like pick the type of wheels, plates, etc. from a list).

A side benefit, for me, is that it helps me get deeper in Excel's capabilities

Draft OXCalculator almost complete and now updated here.

It is short of the breakdown for shims and such as I have to recheck (a couple of times) the counts. I also threw in most unit/package cost, pre-shipping to get you going a bit quicker on the cost estimate. Note prices for tools and such are approximates of what I paid and your mileage will vary. Most of the other items show pricing right of the OpenBuilds web site as of very late last night (there is a few specials in there for screws and such).

If you care to validate the numbers (I show breakdown of screws as comments, include fact that M5x25 of wheels are repurposed), I would appreciate any and all corrections. However, keep in mind this BoM is for a typical OX build (rOX) which is darn close to most mutations seen to date ... even myOX with its potential to cut/mill deep.

Previous alpha drafts (2) were downloaded a total of 65+. This tool is only to guide you with the BoM and cost for your mutation of a typical OX build. You alone are responsible for the exact BoM and Cost for YOUR OX. I just think the OXCalculator would be a nice helper for many, like me, just getting into this ... It looks like I have 2k$ to 2.5k$ so far into myOX, not accounting (yet) for fact I, like you, currently have to buy whole boxes/packs for things like screws and such, not exact counts ... o_O Of course, this is pretty much ALL inclusive, down to the computer, tools to make some of the custom parts and tools to assemble. This is basically cost starting from ... nothing. We all have at least some of those items hidden somewhere in our garage's darkest corners ... right ??

The cost of actual rOX parts is closer to 1.5k$ ... Just to show value of all the other items we repurpose or share with other projects (about 1k$ in sample OXCalculator costing).

Also note that the overall size of your OX will not play a major factor in its cost. It makes a difference, but not a substantial one. What will affect the size of your OX is the space you want to allocate to it in your workshop and the type of work you think you want to do with it.

Here's a thought : can those who already have one or more OX permutations (and worked out their BoM and cost by hand or otherwise) throw at least their X, Y and Z dimensions to OXCalculator and give some feedback ? How close is it to your build's BoM and cost ? How much time to you think it would of saved you, if any ?

I am just curious of its 'value', that's all. You can give the feedback right here, in public. It is out of discussion that improvements and ideas surface.

If the feedback is at least interesting, I'll continue towards a more precise version : pick and choose options (ex the plates come in various flavours; some configuration aspects have twists like using the Xtreme wheels in the critical areas while regular wheels could be used elsewhere; even eventual different tool mounting schemes; ...) I will also adjust the costing formulae so it 'buys' full packages instead of being overly precise with fractional packs (actually give both : actual spec'ed rOX cost and 'one of' cost with potentially lots of spare screws and such).

Serge, your OXcalculator is a really nice. I use LibreOffice (OpenOffice) spread sheet and it opens and seems to run fine as far as I can tell.

The OXcalculator is now a resource. This build will loose the file to direct people to the resources section. I'll have to remove the build at some point in the near future as well.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. I just thought the OXCalculator would be more accessible as a build. But, obviously, hardware it isn't. So off to the resources section we all go ... See you there.

As a resource a few extras will apply and apparently not much will be lost, except for the posts attached here. It's early enough to do the move. Looking forward to your feedback as part of the resources section.

Where do you get all the parts and the plans.
    I would like to build a 36" x 48".
But I don't know where to start. Or how much would it cost.
    Anyone build one like that

There are more and more large OX builds in progress. Mine, myOX, will end up with a 52" (X) x 19" (Y) cutting areas but could go to more Y by using pre-cut 1000mm or 1500mm lengths of 20x80 V-slot. I currently have 750mm lengths.

Most parts are available from Open Build Parts Store (OBPS) and their dealers. I've dealt, so far, with OBPS, Luthier and ProtoDrake. I did get my screws from Fastenal and McMaster-Carr. Steppers I got from ... StepperOnLine. A few others also involved along the way.

Given you are in Ontario (Canada), based on the user name, I would suggest you start shopping at ProtoDrake... They are on Canadian side of the border. There is a few others, most much closer, but for some reason ProtoDrake got my attention and kept it... It probably started with pricing, part selections, inventory, etc. OBPS has a page listing all of their distributors/resellers for at least the V-slot and closely related parts. The V-slot itself is often the hardest item to get a hold of.

The OxCalculator, by default, has prices shown from OBPS and a few estimates. So if you drop in your target X, Y and Z dimensions (in mm), it should give you a fairly good estimate of necessary parts and costs based on a reference OX build (rOX, which is mostly the OX, with a dash of myOX thrown in for spice). I would think of it as a good starting point for your BoM, costing for parts and reminders for other items not found in a BoM (computer, software, tools, etc.)

The gang here is quite good at helping out.
