Now I got everything hook up and running, but now the USB port keeps on disconnecting when I move the laptop or cable.. I look at the connection port and it's very loose..plug is not secure tightly into the port... How do I fix this besides duct taping it to make it tight!! I just bought this box and it's now loose.. ARGH!! Peter
Its not that..the port is really loose and not making a tight contact with the USB port...when the machine move and move the wire it gets disconnected.. Peter
Well, the port is the part on the PCB and those are soldered on really well. 1, any incidents like a trip over the cable, or yanking on it that coulve damaged something? 2, have you tried a different USB cable?
The box been sit on my CNC table all the time. I just got it up and running and this happen now. I try different cables and some fit OK, but still disconnected when the machine moved. I mean the box haven't even been used at all except for setting up the machine and all the issue I have been having...so now this is driving me crazy...I was one of the first to buy this unit..maybe I should wait until all the stuff been thoroughly tested...I am waiting for the customer services to contact me..nothing from them yet! Peter
We also did reply to your email, but this conversation may be futher along than that one - check your spam folder please? They were thoroughly tested, and USB connectors are so standard I dont expect any changes to it in future. Post some pics of your board so we can check if its a soldering issue. Unlikely as each board is programmed and tested prior to shipping too, but lets see what it looks like Maybe a video showing how loose. A bit of wiggle is normal (and one of the advantages of the bigger connector - the contact areas are wide, spring loaded, and super durable - unlike the tiny microusb ports on phones etc) I dont think its the looseness, i think its something else... Any other PCs you can test on? Power supply connected and power on? (Please do if not)
Here are some pictures..The box have been sitting on my CNC table since I got it. You guys been helping me get this setup and running. I had some issue with it and learning GRBL. It hasn't been running at all except for testing the motors and setup. I had problem before with the connection when it doesn't connect to the software when it launches..I have to try multiplies time switching ports on my laptop to get it to work, but when it actually ran on my first test and die when the cable move that drove me crazy!!! Peter
Thanks for the uploads, checking them our now, will revert with a reply in a second And Yip i recall your prior issues too, both were grbl config related so this is like the first hardware one. I am sure we can find a solution Sidenote, what machine are you running? Custom? (Speaking about the Grbl config, we have predefined profiles in OpenBuildsCONTROL that just loads all the settings, steps per mm, endstop config, $4, all of them) if its one of our bundles. If not, the bundle profiles are still good templates to start off from.
PS: Pics look within spec, I know its a schlep but can we just get a closeup of the bottom under the USB to check that its been soldered on perfectly? Video: Yeah its a little looser than the factory blackbox I have on my desk. Will tell customer service that they can RMA it for you, thanks for the video. New stock is eta 2-3 weeks though.
I built my own 4'x8' CNC Machine. I am using the Black Box to drive it. I loaded the C Beam XL profile in the Open Software for the setting. I previously had a Rambo 1.4 board running it, but it was to weak to drive the NEMA 23 motors. I really needs to get this up and running ASAP, I got a two boats that needs to be built ASAP. Peter
Sorry I was holding it with one hand and trying to get it focus..I will try the bottom too..I had to used my 6 years old son to hold the phone for the video LOL..Peter
Haha! I do the same! Except then my videos is peppered with more "verbal encouragement" lol, have to mute it when I'm done! Thanks for your patience!
The closer I try to get to shot the bottom it loose focus on me..I can see there a white indicator under the USB..it look like it the metal is not really closed under it...may that's why I can't always get a good connection with the software. Peter
It's OK we'll look closer when its returned. For what its worth, couple hundred out the door with no one else having this issue, so when you get a replacement you'll be fine. (PS; might get better focus if you unscrew the bottom plate, hold just brains on the table, lying flat hehe)
Do you know the replacement be shipping and how do I get this unit back to you? I live in Lgnwood WA and its been really sunny lately so I am dying to get cutting on the boat parts and fibreglassing in the warm days. also what project section are you talking about? I designed a catamaran style luxury boat for a poor man..doing the prototype now. Peter

Peter, couldn't he use the Aux? or does that aux not do that? From the pic to me the Left side of the plug looks bent outward, hard to tell, could try to squeeze it slightly back into tightness with channel-lock pliers. My plug is super tight, and through a zip tie holding the cable with a gentle loop so the plug isn't taking the motion. Gary
I think it should be mentioned here that laptop USB ports can cause connection issues when they've had multiple insertions - everything from an erratic connection to a complete failure.
