I also shimmed the spoiler board. I can't figure out what happened. The plate is level and I used the same sized shims to place the MDF base, but the spoiler board top had to be shimmed 1/8" on the left side to make the top level with the bottom and the Z axis on top. I placed washers between the spoiler board and the board attached to the XY axis
MDF doesn't stay the same size or shape I'm afraid - it will even sag under its own weight. Most people find it's necessary to take a skim off the surface to level it. Alex.
so I tried my program out again and now when I start the run command from 0, it runs through the face of the board on its way to its 1st point. What have I done wrong?
no. I ran it once before from 0 and it didn't do this. So I should be raising the Z after I set the 0 point?
so, I have used your method and it helped. Thanks. Now I have another issue. When I load the Gcode it places it in a funny location.
You are out of my comfort zone now @Matt Thorniley. My workbee has the duet controller so I don't use Openbuilds control software (yet). Try reaching out to @Peter Van Der Walt or @sharmstr. Alex.
I loaded your code and it looked fine for me. What version of control are you on? What happens if you click Reset View?
The reason you're seeing graphics below Y0 is because you set your origin above the bottom of your graphic. This is not a fault of Control. Double check your origin point in Fusion job setup. If you're connected to the internet, the update will download and prompt you to update. You can dismiss it for 15 mins, then it will ask again.
All versions will show the file the same. Hasnt been any changes in that regard in months. Our "easy for beginners" strategy is 0,0,0 = lower left corner so we draw the grid that way. If you have 0,0,0 at work center you're drawing will lie "off the grid" to show you the center is 0,0,0
Hey Peter. My confusion is the file he posted about 10 post back loaded fine, but he showed a screen shot that it didnt. When he reposted the file, mine looked like his so I then was absolutely sure it wasnt a control display issue and that he had moved his work origin in Fusion since the last post he had provided. Hope that terrible mess of words makes sense.
makes sense, was just pointing out that there hasnt been changes to origin/grid draw in months so whatvver the gcode says is what it will do, in 170, 172, etc so as to not expect an update to fix his issues... got to get into Fusion and fix the origin instead
First off I would like to thank all of you for your patience and expertise. This is a challenging but fun learning experience. #1 I noticed that with the update a few of the parameters are now labeled differently than previously shown me. Anyone got the correct parameters per the new update? #2 I noticed that my contour changes as it makes passes down. Not sure why. #3 For some reason I was cruising along just fine and on my most recent run, the router steps down beyond the lowest point of the blank, (I think it is actually bottoming out on the Z axis). And it attempts to run the program. It had been raising up and moving to its 1st point. I have tried raisingf the Z axix before hitting run, and it just bottoms out once I hit run. I have tried to compensate by setting the 0 point higher- same issue......I am baffled.
Hi @Matt Thorniley , it's a bit late now, but I'll have a look at your nc file tomorrow. I suspect your problems are more to do with Fusion - could you either export your Fusion file (as an archive file) and upload it here or start a conversation with me and I'll tell you how to give me access to the Fusion folder you have the file in. (I could then work with you on it) Alex.
Hi @Matt Thorniley, just checking something (haven't had a chance to look at your files yet) - can you still jog your Z axis up and down as normal? Alex.
Yes, it is up & down as normal. I thought of that. I thought maybe the axis was flipped. It sure acts like it.. It used to raise the machine to start the run, but now no matter what I do it wants to bottom out
Hi @Matt Thorniley - just started looking at your files. You might have to wait for someone like @sharmstr to get up - I can't see anything obvious in your fusion files yet, but your nc code starts with G90 G53 G0 Z-10 G54 and I haven't worked out yet why there is that G0 Z-10 in there. Will get back to you if I work out what's going on. Alex.
I have reloaded and reset the controller with the Gcode and 0 axis points twice to see if it was corrupted settings, connected and disconnected the board, shut off the power supply, loaded the latest version of the openbuilds controller. I just don't know what I am doing wrong. #2 is irritating, but I can live with it, The Parameters for the latests update I tried to use the previously mentioned settings, but now some settings have a drop down that does not match what I was shown. I'll try to post a photo. (my laptop is outside)
I just noted this on the fusion Gcode......will it make a difference? how do I change that to the current version? Of course this was all happening prior & post to me updating.
