Hi, I have now got my machine (Workbee 750 x 750 belt) all set up, spoiler board on, using a Dewalt router with a 1/4 in collet. Which bits would you recommend? I am only carving names and some pocketing to start with nothing more complicated than that. I have been told some places but there are so many out there and the prices vary from place to place. Would like some links if possible and would like to have soon so china out of the question for now. Thanks Gina
I bought a set of bits from Harbor Freight for $66 after my coupon. Amazon is another place to buy bits with several V bits and end mills as part of the Prime program, some with next day delivery. That is where I have purchased my V bits and surfacing bit.
For experimenting with I strongly recommend the cheap router bits sold by toolstation. If you haven't got a local branch they deliver free for orders over £10. Search toolstation.com Alex.
OOPS!!! Sorry about that. Not sure how Amazon works there but you can take @Alex Chambers advice and use Toolstation.
Look at the Silverline range - they are cheap but reasonable quality and it's not too upsetting if/when you break one - wear eye protection. I use the 3mm and 6mm (1/4" shank) a lot for basic pockets and 2D profiles (cutting out). They don't seem to do a V bit though which you might want for lettering. Alex.
If you are not in a great rush, treat yourself to a mixed load of cheap Chinese bits. They lose their edge true, but not until they have paid for themselves many times. Plus you can use these to establish, what sizes and types you are going to need more frequently, and therefore order the better bits with some first-hand knowledge of what you need.
