Wow! such a great Build. Thank you for the in depth share this will go a long way in helping others learn and this is what OpenBuilds is all about!
Welcome Mark, uploaded the Z axis idea just know, also if you notice any grammar issue that you think should be corrected let me know, English is not my primary language
I do have one question. You're worried about the Y axis staying square so you're using a single stepper but going with a 4 stepper setup for the Z. Now you're introducing 4 points of failure that would cause the bed to be off level. How are you compensating for that?
Im not sure what are you trying to address with your concern for a Z axis motion on a co2 laser cutter, the primary reason of the Z axis is for focusing purposes, meaning the work bed will not be moved during a cut, this is not a 3d printer with a Z axis constantly in motion, there is not Z axis gcode involved during a laser cut in this machine, the z table moves by just a "jogging" button on the laser control panel, if one or multiple motors fails there is no risk or hazard involved at all, on the contrary Y axis it is a big concern for common reasons.
I guess if you're not planning to move the Z during a process, that's a good point. However, you'll have to level the bed more frequently before cutting. My plan is to get the Z to move during cuts since a cut focus should be different than an engrave focus.
yes a single motor closed loop belt it is the option for your type of engraving, I always double check my focus for every cut job, the primary reason for the 4 motor setup is to lift the massive 20lbs chuck rotary, to do that with a single motor, a pretty decent nema23 at least will be require with nice closed loop belt and pulley setup, I did the research the 4 motor setup end up cheaper.
This is an awesome build! Thank you for so much detail on the design. I was looking at the photos and the parts list... it seems that there are some items that you forgot to add. Would you be able to add those too so that we can estimate how much a build like this would cost to make and also attempt one ourselves. I am very excited to work on this as my next project. Thanks.
Some details are missing I will update the part list this weekend, this is one of the more difficult task to do!!
Thank you so much... I look forward to it. Also, have you had any challenges so far with your machine? Or things you feel you would do differently on your next build?
I dont doubt it but would be very grateful. I've spent the week trying to decide if I should build my own or get a crap one off of ebay and upgrade it.
You did a great job on this build. I see that you used a Linear Rail Guide with Sliding Guide Block for the X axis. Did you consider using it also for the Y axis? I was thinking of doing this and wondered if it would be a good idea or not.
You can use any of them, wheel setup or linear rails, but Pro lasers use linear rails on both axis, also be ready for a pocket injury when buying good original rails those are not cheap.
Well.. another work of art is born! @pedrofernandez you did it again man this thing is a true beauty, seriously nice work. I will be sharing this one in the morning meeting for sure! Great build and the results speak for themselves . p.s. Love it's emblem!
Nice work there, I will Need your assistance in putting me through with materials to buy and how to build a 4060 XY axis stage for laser machine. Thanks
What an awesome build!! This is a great project and almost exactly what I have been looking for. Are you planning on publishing the complete BOM or parts list? Thanks for publishing this!!
Looks very nice! Thanks for all the photos. Can I ask why use the linear rail on one axis instead of the v wheels?
love it....outside the box....reading and listening to your "why" i did it this way......made me rethink areas of my build.....super clean
