Hi, I have finished my Minimill build and am most impressed! I am using Black Box sas the controller. I set everything up on my PC and all worked fine. I have now moved to my laptop, installed \ftdi driver but Black Box won't connect, com 1 being the only port showing. What am I doing wrong? my laptop will not recognise the Minimill....

Unplug all the wiring except USB
We often get users making wiring mistakes (particularly endstop wiring if they dont follow docs.openbuilds.com) which can short V+ to GND preventing board from booting. Unplugging everything except USB, is a quick test to show board is fine (connects again)

Then go back and validate wiring job against docs.openbuilds.com

So nothing wrong with the board, but laptop could do with some driver updates (chipset etc), a reformat, or a visit to your local IT specialis, googling the error etc. Basic PC support in other words, just windows throwing some fits.

If it works on the PC it should work everywhere else, so nothing we can help with I'm afraid (other than saying, try a different PC to prove board is fine)

Thats of course assuming you did the wiring test, short can still drop vbus voltage also causing error 10. Laptop has weaker usb power output maybe only manifesting on it. Do the test as requested above just to eliminate wiring

You're getting an access denied error on the port. A quick google will walk you through how to resolve.

Job sorted thanks! I tried the usb cable I used on the main computer and all worked! The USB lead that came with the Black Box kit is faulty. It is the first time I had used it. I tried the USB lead from one of my 3D printers to make sure and that too worked. Thanks for your help!:)
