Hello Team, I recently purchased a blackbox (second one for a second machine) and I'm have a strange issue with the X-Axis and Z-Axis. X-Axis issue: It will only travel right when pressing X+ and when I press X- it still goes right it will not go the other direction. When I move the whole cable assembly to the either Y1-Axis or Y2-Axis on the blackbox it works fine, so it must be related to the X-Axis port on the blackbox or a software setting that I cannot find. Z-Axis issue: When moving the Z-Axis up or down its very jumpy "chatters". When I move the whole cable assembly to either Y1-Axis or Y2-Axis port on the blackbox it works great. Configuration: - Openbuilds Control Software - Openbuilds Blackbox (new) - Workbee Belt Drive 1500 form factor (X, Y1, Y2) Lead Screw for Z-Axis. I must be over looking something somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
Hi Halifaxson, Did you try increasing your current Pot on the axis a bit? Sounds like that on the Z but not sure on the X. Cheers Gary
Current setting as Gary mentioned, or indeed, wiring. Moving it around to another port as a test may just flex the cable enough that a slightly loose connection somewhere then makes contact, as a chattery motor is almost always 3 of the 4 wires making good contact Does it run smoothly or also a bit chattery? As a test do disable Hard Limits in Grbl settings (in case a false trigger prevents it moving except "away from the switch" )
Hi Gary, I turned the Z-Axis POT higher just a nip and that smoothed it out tremendously. I then moved it higher by 1 hour just to be sure. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Peter, The X-Axis does move smoothly, Hard Limits in Grbl settings are disabled. When I move the whole X-Axis cable assembly to the either Y1-Axis or Y2-Axis or Z-Axis on the blackbox it works fine. Its just when its plugged in to the X-Axis port on the black box. The only things that are plugged in to the Blackbox is power, USB to laptop and X-Axis. Any Ideas?
If you plug in a known working motor from another axis, into the X Axis port, does that run? Any visual defects on the Muscle board around the X axis connector or driver chip?
If I plug in another motor, let say from Y1-Axis in to the Blackbox for the X-Axis port it does the same thing, it will only travel forward when pressing X+ and when I press X- it still goes forward it will not go in the away direction. (We're talking Y-Axis motor now in X-Axis Port as a test). Not seeing anything odd on the board or solder joints. Its new, only a couple days old, could be a manufacturing flaw.
Do you see anything wrong on the board? Looks like you need to reach out to http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home too - they'll assist with RMA request
