    Hello,

I am new to OpenBuilds and am in the process of building a C-Beam Plate Maker that's been sitting around new in the box for way too long!

Here is what I have built so far.

I have a couple of questions that hopefully someone here can help me with:

    1) I use TurboCAD at home for my 3D work. It accepts STEP files. So, is there a STEP file available of the assembled C-Beam Plate Maker that I can download?

    2) Will the Dewalt 611 router fit in the included spindle holder without modification?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Carlos (Chachin..)

Not an official one, but just view the provided Sketchup files in the free edition of Sketchup Make 2017

Yes, our mounts fit the DWP611 perfectly

Is this a recent change? I had to 3D print a shim for my DW611 in the CBeam spindle holder. As I recall, I needed about 2mm thickness on my shim. There are a couple of threads about this here and several shims on thingaverse.

The shim has never been needed, you can clamp it down as is. The front plate has enough movement to accomodate spindles of 69-72mm diameter

Good to know that the mount is compatible Peter, thank you! I will order a Dewalt 611 router then.

Hmmm... I've never used SketchUp and don't really need all the components in the assembly... soooo... I am in the process of creating my own C-Beam Plate Maker assembly in TurboCAD as shown in the attachment below.

I'm using the STEP files from the Parts Library 1.5. So far so good. This should come in real handy for future upgrades.

Can't wait to get this built.

Tramming is a pain with the stock mount because the front piece and the router have enough play when tightening that the router moves. I had a single piece mount made that fits like a tight glove.

Good to know Pat. Of the 4 pieces shown in the attachment below, which ones did you turn into a single piece?

    Parts 2, 3 and 4?

Hey guys, just finished my Plate Maker!!

The only issue I'm having is that when I try to jog the X, Y or Z axes, the motors do a loud stutter... but don't actually move. Any idea what it could be?

Currently investigating. Here are some pictures in case they help diagnose the issue:

Here is a quick video showing the issue:

Y axis is the worst offender.

check the wires to your motors - make sure they are wired correctly.

Did you confirm you found the right pairs of wires? As in the A pair and B pair? If the steppers are mis-wired, they will not run properly. You can check continuity to find each pair, or take one wire and touch it to another and try to turn the motor shaft. If it easily turns, you do not have a pair. If the shaft is hard to turn, then you have located a motor pair. Aonther potential problem may be a bad wiring connection such as maybe the wire insulation is messing up a screw terminal. If you have all the wires paired properly I would check all connections just to be sure there isn't a loose wire.

I thought about bad connection but it happens in multiple motors. My money is on wrong wiring.

Success!! It was wrong motor wiring, even though I used the same red, blue, green, yellow color sequence shown in the OpenBuilds C-Beam Electronics Video. So I found the correct motor pairs, rewired (red, green, yellow, blue), reversed a couple of axes and it's all good. My Nema 23 motors are several years old, so not sure if that had something to do with it (maybe they had different color coding back then; who knows).

Anyways, this video shows the fix and my machine's first few moves!! Can't wait to get this thing cutting and uploading some project footage. Thank you fine gentlemen for your spot on help.

Glad you got it working. There doesn't seem to be any consistency for stepper motor wire colors.

The wires were a little different a few years back before OB "standardized" theirs. If they come from another company, they may not confirm to the Openbuilds colors.
