I just completed my black box controller and hooked it to y c beam machine with high torque motors. I am getting no motion. I have the correct pairs hooked to the black ox according to the wiring diagrams.
- Is the controller receiving power (RGB LED Behind the logo on the top, next to fan, is it on?. And is fan spinning?) (must be 24v, must be correct polarity, etc) - Is the power switch on on the front of the BlackBox (sorry, got to check, easy to overlook as not all controllers have power switches) - Did you load a Grbl profile from our predefined profiles (known working) or somewhere else? - If not our profiles included in CONTROL, or if you edited Grbl settings manually, do check that you have $4=1(Enabled) as some controllers use $4=0 (won't work) (Check it anyway) - Does the DRO (xyz position indicators) update if you jog? (If not, Grbl is in Alarm or Locked state and not accepting moves until you unlock)
I just finished hooking mine all up and had the same issue. If you are using the Meanwell power supply check the red voltage selector on the side. Mine was set at 220 out of the box. Switching to 110 cured all problems
Ahh yes, possible cause if test no 1 above indicates the issue. That happens sometimes. The big yellow warning sticker on the top of PSU pointing to the switch, advising you to check the Voltage, chould be brighter (; Good thing the meanwell shuts itself off with the wrong voltage selected, and doesn't explode like cheaper power supplies do when you set it to the wrong voltage. It says
LOL I'm not known for my attention to detail. I even remembered watching one of the Youtube vids warning about the same thing. Remembered that after I frustrated myself for an hour. XD
Don't worry. You are not alone on that one its a canned response template on the email based support line. Really, Meanwell should make it brighter I am not joking
i have the 24v supply with the switch on 110. i have power on the black box with a green light on enabled. the indicators do not light on the axis when i try to move. Iloaded the cbeam file for the config with #4 on
the power light is on, but the fan is not running. I loaded the Openbuilds Cbeam Machine. the indicaters do not light when I jog
Then your power supply wiring is suspect Board is getting 24v power, so fans and motors cannot run - check 110v switch (again) - check wiring polarity is correct - check fuse on BlackBox - check Power Switch is in on position - check wiring to make sure you are screwed down on wire, and not just pinching insulation Careful here, there's a Power light on the PS, there's Power LEDs is on the front of the BlackBox (which lights red with incorrect polarity and green with correct polarity) , there's a 5VOK green led is on the top, next to the RGB LED (lights up with USB power or 24v power), and the RGB LED is the one we're interested in: OpenBuilds BlackBox 4X Documentation! So "the power light" doesn't tell me much. Check the link, is THAT RGB LED (big, white surround part) on? ie:
but... I don't want to know about the Power LED... Is the RGB LED on? Maybe a Picture is worth a thousand words, image from link I shared twice before: If it is, then its something else. If it is NOT ON, then refer above, still valid:
Good stuff, glad you got it sorted. It's almost always wiring a mistake - good thing, those are easier to address than serious problems. Enjoy the machine
