Hello All, I am under the gun time wise to design something to move roughly 20lbs 34" of travel in 3 to 4 seconds. Normaly I would design something from scratch as I have 30 years of linear mothion stage design experience, but for this project to show proof of concept, I need to go with off the shelf items as i have 3 weeks to design build and do software. I know it can move the load with the Cbeam leadscrew actuator, but the lead pitch is too slow and wont meet the transit time. If a faster screw upgrade is available that is possibly an option. If so let me know? However I am leaning toward buying 2ea of the Nema 23 1000mm belt driven actuators for this application since I can always add a 3 or 4 stack stepper if I need more torque. Also will have the two in parellel to each other to help with the load. So if anyone has experience with these actuators do you think my application is doable? Also need them to be fairly quiet and thought about using a quiet stepper drive, but know that trades torque for the silent ability and unsure if enough margin there. The driver I am looking at is capable of 6 amps each motor continuous. Fine accuracy is not essential for this application. +/- .06" is fine. Next question if someone from openbuilds replies are the items in stock? I need 3ea of the belt stages and may buy 1ea Cbeam leadscrew version. I also may swap out the extrusion for a 20x80 but I believe these arrive as a kit and not prebuilt so that may be easy to do. Would love to actually talk to someone at Openbuilds as htis has potential for large qty if the proof of concept gets me the PO. If able please PM me your contact number. I am thinking for my needs perhaps open rail is better as it will likely handle the loads better than the smaller Vtype wheels used on amost 3D printers. marc

Somewhat outdated testing specs here: https://openbuilds.com/uploadfiles/Part Specs/OpenBuilds® Actuator Tests_V2.pdf Some notes on why you definately can do better than the test results: - the test used 1.25A stepper drivers - for a 2.8A motor (; - No real acceleration tuning etc - Using good drivers (like DQ542MAs) with a higher drive voltage (36v) will probably be fine - But as these things go, get parts in hand and try them out... You know what you expect of it, you know how it should feel and whether it will suffice, and you will be the best to evaluate them. Order 1 to play with!, thats going to be the best way forward - theory only gets you to circle around obsession, where perfection quickly gets in the way of good enough - prototyping gets you moving forward into the game faster. With one in hand, give it hell, see where it breaks, then you know whether its overspec'ed already, or whether you need to double up, or use bigger motors, or whatever V-Slot would probably be better, just use the best wheels: Xtreme Solid V Wheel Kit (harder material, can crack under shock loads, but less deflection (still in the order of microns though) or even Solid V Wheel Kit (runs quieter, harder to crack, but can deform with static loads, deflection still in the range of microns) - solid wheels crack less likely than V-Wheels on OpenRail. - note these are not the Mini V-Wheels you mention: (those are Delrin Mini V Wheel Kit and the tiny bearing is the limiting factor for these) For weight handling just add more wheels. 3 on a side instead of 2 for example. Also, checkout How to calculate V-Slot® deflection - not sure that affects your use case - probably more for the CNC guys that have to maintain precision on the XY plate with a gantry stretched over the bed
