Hello, I'm wondering, in terms of feature, what are the main difference between theses 2? - Maximum work area - Accuracy - Milling capacity (speed, type of material, pass thickness...) Thanks
Ox: outdated, long ago's design Workbee: Next gen LEAD1010 is actually the class leader - Entirely modular - High Z mod - More rigid - Several factors more acuurate than an Ox
At this time yes Bigger is not always better: See How to calculate V-Slot® deflection - the bigger you go, the more the deflection What do you want to make? Milling lots of Alu little widgets: Get a Minimill (super rigid) for example ... Only planning on doing somewhat precise plywood sheet jobs like furniture and signs, get a 1500x1500...
In my case, I'm looking for a model where I can add a 4th axis to work on 140x140x140mm stock wood material. I was looking for CNC Turning machine but it is lot more expensive than DIY CNC.
Ok cool, well look at the limitations above, Workbee is still on the list. But the info should give you some idea of the pros and cons.
Big drawback for the workbee with 4th axis is Z height. It has been suggested that the high Z mod for the Lead 1010 will fit the Workbee, but then it fits the Lead 1010 anyway. Alex.
Thanks, Then the only one remaining is the Lead CNC with extra z as there is no extra Z mod for the workbee. Surprisingly there is no true openbuild CNC Wood Lathe
I am in the process of building one right now based on purchasing a LEAD High Z kit and all off the shelf components from Openbuilds. The only thing purchased elsewhere is the rotary axis and tail stock. It will have a cutting length of about 27" and cutting height of about 10." The length could be longer, but I only have Vcarve desktop so I can't do unlimited.
Exactly what I would like to do. Would you lilke to share the component please for the rotary and tail? Thanks
I purchased it from Ebay in the U.S. form a store that - I assume - imports them in bulk from China. 〖US〗Rotation A Axis CNC Router Rotary Table 4th Axis 100mm 3 jaw chuck&Tailstock | eBay My previous attempt to get one a year ago failed when the Aliexpress seller took my money then said I had to pay more because shipping rates went up. That was a month after they had taken my money. I disputed it and I got my money back. I will not do business with them again. That Aliexpress store was LYCNC Store. I would have preferred a 4 jaw chuck, but I was not willing to pay the significant difference in price. I plan to make a triangular end piece out of aluminum that will screw into my work piece for the jaws to grab.
Thanks, will a nema23 be powerfull enough to be used as Lathe axis? Same question apply to the belt drive....Please be aware that I'm not a mechanic man, so my question may sounds stupid.
