I am looking to attach gantry plates (such as XLarge C-Beam Gantry Plate or C-Beam® Gantry Plate - Double Wide) to 2''x2'' 80/20 profiles (2020). I'm wondering what is the most common solution or part used for that? I haven't been able to spot anything yet
Realistically no. While some have had success meshing the metric 80/20 sizes into the OpenBuilds as supporting structure, attempting to mesh the 20mm modular nature of V-slot with 1" modular 80/20 will not lead anywhere other than a badly forced solution.
I'm confused. So, Cbeam and V-Slots are compatible? I'm looking through alternative designs. It looks like the entire machine is built out of Cbeams for this one OpenBuilds Sphinx 55 (20" x 20") Also, High Z Mod for Lead CNC looks like having Cbeam actuator for its z axis. However, not the entire machine looks to be built using Cbeam rails. I can replace my 80/20s with Cbeams if that's the case. But I don't understand what parts are available to make connections between Cbeams. Could you point me to them? For example can I use regular tnuts? I am assuming I can't as Cbeams aren't compatible with 80/20s. How about corners etc?
Yes. Both are V Slot. C Beam is just C-shaped, the other profiles are 20x20, 20x40, 20x60, 20x80 and 40x40. C-Beam is basically a 40x80 but with a channel for leadscrew to run in / for plates with inside mini vwheels
Aha, got you now. So, I can use tee-nuts, corner brackets, or joining plates. basically anything compatible to vslots for my cbeam actuator. Correct? If so, all I need to is to replace 80/20s of my existing machine with vslots. awesome. Edit : When I search through different parts in the store, I see many parts are categorized as vslot <something> vs cbeam <something>. If they're interchangeable, why is that the case? As an example, there vslot plates and cbeam plates.
As a somewhat tangential question, do you guys know if t nuts and corner brackets for 80/20s fit to vslots?
Compare the measurements of the slot specs to what you have on the 8020. The slot width of the OpenBuilds V-slot linear rails (C-Beam and all other V-Slot products) is 10mm - I believe. The CAD models are available. Good question. I may be wrong, but I think I can answer. The Cbeam is a newer product. Prior to it everything was called V-slot. The plates were designed for extrusions with no center 40 mm channel. The new Cbeam has that channel so there are holes in specific locations for wheel and lead screw mounting to take advantage of the channel. The designation of Cbeam plate lets you know that it is fully compatible with a Cbeam extrusion. A Cbeam gantry plate will work on a regular 80x20 mm Vslot extrusion if using the outer wheel mounting holes. Both have the same 80mm outer dimension.
