Have had a CNC project on the back burner for quite some time now, have had most of the mechanical parts ready to go and now getting close to retirement finally planning to get everything I need to get the project up and going, father a two adult son project. The plates for the gantries I bought are the Oonest OX machine, it's going to be 1500 x 1000mm, belt driven. I have had some parts for about 5 or 6 years now so that is why I am sticking with the OX. I am leaning very heavily towards the Openbuild Black Box for my main controller. When I happen to be watching a video on the Electrical Hook Ups and when they were showing the type of machine to configure and after some research I found out the OX is not listed. I want to know if I could use the parameter setting for the Workbee 1510 being the same size. I read that you have the option of custom machine configuration also, I hope that was correct. Thank you and please stay healthy and safe Steve
Hi Steve, Yes you can use the BB on an OX (My Ox is using a BB), the configuration is not difficult to do even without a pre-set, we can help you with the details. Cheers Gary
Just refer to gnea/grbl along with the Grbl settings from OpenBuilds OX CNC Machine (about 1/3rd down after the assembly videos) Expect to modify some settings though, the Ox is a very old design, so some of the parts that related to the original settings may be different by now. For example with the better drivers on the BlackBox you can increase acceleration and maximum speeds settings likely. Different pulleys would need different steps-per-mn, etc - Grbl Wiki is a goldmine of info though, read it all, and also read start [OpenBuilds Documentation]
First of all I just want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone on this forum for the info I am getting. You guys are great!! Just waiting now for one of my suppliers here in Canada to restock his extrusions so I can put my order in. After a certain amount of dollars spent it's free shipping, and Canadian dollars. I have an outdoor workshop but the last few weeks it has been so hot and humid here I don't mind waiting. We have been experiencing Humidex reading of 100-105 degrees and very sticky. Thanks again Steve
Need help with my 1.5Kw spindle setup on my ox CNC router. I have watched videos on wiring up to VFD from Blackbox. Spindle works from VFD, changed the jumper to VI and spindle won't operate from program. Help would be appreciated.
Peter, I have checked out all the power outputs as I was wiring it all up and the toolhead cable has an output of 10V when spindle is set to 24000 RPM. I have checked various speed settings to check that the output is working correctly and it is. Could this be a software proplem? I am running windows 7 on the computer that is being used to control the machine.
Peter, Can you help with VFD settings? There was a Youtube video that I watched and followed because he had the exact same setup as me. I followed his wiring setup and parameter setup but spindle will not work via PC. I found some other parameter setups but the build was a little different but still tried anyway still the same result. I have the jumper in the VFD set to AI, the jumper in the black box set to VFD, I loop wire connected in the VFD from forward terminal to DCM terminal the toolhead wiring is 10V to VI and ground to ACM. I am using the open builds control software which seems to be the setup for a lot of the videos that I have watched. Jeff.
There are many different VFD models, so sadly we cannot document all of them. VFDs are always harder to setup than a router. We don't supply VFDs at this time either. But check out docs:blackbox:connect-vfd [OpenBuilds Documentation] - at the bottom there are community contributed guides for the two most popular VFDs (Haunyaung and YL620a) - if you have a different one, do post a writeup like that when you get it working. Your VFD supplier may be able to advise, and read the VFD manual That Jumper allows you to wire DCM/FOR via the onboard relay, there are some VFDs that does not turn off (spindle keeps spinning at low rpm) when the 0-10v signal goes to 0v, so this exist to support those. If your VFD supports 0-10v correctly and you have the parameters correct, you wont need this though
Peter, I am using a Huanyang inverter so from what you are saying that the jumper in the blackbox should be removed altogether. That is the only thing I haven't tried. It will be the first thing I do try in the morning. Thanks for your help. I will let you know if this works. Cheers, Jeff.
Won't affect anything (as you have nothing wired to the relay inside the BlackBox affected by it) Actually what i was saying was: IE your VFD parameters or setup is wrong. Refer the link above, at the bottom is links back to known working sets of parameters you can use as a crosscheck
hi open builds team im curious as to what setting i should use for my machine im running a SPAM 3d 1500 x1500 lead screw design with the nema 23 high torque motors and you guys dont have that machine listed in the open builds controller software i was originally running the novusun controller with mach but the controller stopped communicating with mach 3 so i descided to purchase your BLACK BOX im using the open builds lead 1515 machine settings to get the machine moving and just switched my axis direction to my machine orientaion im using after i accidentally snapped one of my shark bit tips but as far as my motor settings im wondering is i should use those settings or i should copy over my mach3 motor settings thanx in advance for anyhelp you can offer
We provide profiles for the machines we sell only. You can select a similar machine and modify the profile appropriately, or just manually setup: see github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki
