Hi Peter I am new at this . cnc game I have built a cnc mahine and now down to the setting up of the softwere is there a step by step youtube version of how to do the set up as I am not good at this thanks Derek Roberts ps I have your open build BLACKBOX
Yip right on our YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/user/OpenBuilds And also see the written documentation at start [OpenBuilds Documentation]
Hi Peter sory about the delay , I have tryed to load the blaskbox but no joy as yet, also the consction for drawings has been great so far as I have been able to set up and load some of the dawings to the page which is grate for me thanks . As far as the blckbox goes ,Do I have to conect the machine to the computer first the have the internet conected (as I have no conection at my work shop ) do I have to load firmwere ? first ore any other prowgrams as when I get to the open builds sight and try to dowbload the seting bar comes on but will not load so I asume I have to be conected to the internt first . as you can see buy my feable way that I am a reel novis at this. But I am realy great full for any help Thanks Derek Roberts
Which machine do you have? On our YouTube channel you will find both a wiring/software video for your specific machine, and also after doing the setup, you can run your first project:
Hi Peter I do not have one of open builds machines I have built my own .I have bought a open builds black box to try to run it. I thought it wold run it for me but no joy not as simple as I thought . Will the black box run a home made machine ore not.? thanks Derek
Hi Derek, i bought one of them black boxes only yesterday. I think that this controller will run everything as long as your stepper motors are upto 3amp and you have a 24v PSU good enough to run all stepper motors. .
Of course, the profiles make setting up our machines easier because we have proven settings With home made, you just do it yourself: See gnea/grbl for all the details
Did you enter in the machine profile? I forgot to do this the other day on my lathe and I could not get the OpenBuilds control to get it to move until I realized it was waiting for me to finish setting it up. I have two homemade machines of my own design and the blackbox works.
Hi Peter that is great news that it will run other builds . I will try to put in the machine profile but where do I fined it and what is it and where is the program to put it in sorry about this but I now feel so close many thanks Derek
Watch any of our machine setup videos, the concepts is universal (checkout our YouTube channel). Stepper wiring is stepper wiring, no matter the machine. Same for software
Hello, So if I have 2 limit switches on the X axis, and 2 limit switches on the Y axis, do I wire each pair in parallel to the blackbox? Thanks. Wolfgang
Thanks Peter for the quick response! One more question: what's the advantage/difference to using 3 wires vs 2 wires for the limit switch? In the manual it says to use 3 wires for "Xtension Limit Switches" and 2 wires for "regular microswitches". I'm using a plunger style switch from mcmaster: McMaster-Carr Wolfgang
Wiring a regular micro switch with 3 wires kills your BlackBox (if you wire V+ via NC to GND your switch shorts V+ to GND) Xtension Switches gets power to use for its troubleshooting LED and EMI filter circuitry (and thus needs the 3rd wire to provide power). Same for Inductive switches and other kinds of Active sensors Yours thus would also be 2 wire on SIG and GND only
