    Hi,
My first job on my brand spanking new Workbee 1515 has been to level my spoilboard. In my opinion this is an absolute must-do for every new build.

Eyeballing the 16mm spoilboard told me it was perfect. It is screwed to three lateral 2080 extrusions, so it MUST be level, right? WRONG.

I used my trusty $40 dial indicator screwed to the router mount. I measured every 100mm, and my left panel varied from 0.028 to 0.105 over the 1270 length.

So I used the bed levelling wizard in CONTROL, and selected 0.25mm DOC. Most of the bed wasn't even touched, but it turns out that the right hand panel was a full 3mm too high. Just as well I was conservative.

I'll have to do at least another pass to make sure the cutter touches the entire spoilboard.

    Bit: 22mm straight Carbide
Speed: lowest setting on the Makita (8600 rpm)
    Feed: 2000mm/minutes
    DOC: 0.25mm

    Lessons:
    1. Do it.
    2. Don't get impatient by either using too deep DOC or too high a spindle speed
    3. Use a very sharp bit. My MDF came off in flakes, not powder
    4. Be prepared to do this twice, or even three times. You'll be thankful in the end.
