The description on the website for the RoütER11 is pretty basic. What advantages does it have to the Dewalt or Makita? Is their anything I would gain from pulling the dewalt (and using as a trim router) and replacing it with this?
Well I am thinking the ER11 collet is the prize. I have a whole gaggle of ER11 collets that came with my 500 watt spindle that would be great to use.
I have both Dewalt and Makita routers and have implemented a relay circuit to start/stop the router with M3/M5, it would be nice to control the spindle speed (S code) with an analogue input rather than a manual rotary switch. This would be a big advantage for CNC users.
Seems like primarily it's a CNC-oriented trim router. The ER11 collets and the 6003 bearings (plural... Nice) seem to be the major features. Proper spindle bearings is a big deal for a router like this for low runout and rigidity, especially on aluminum. Anyone who wants to mainly work metals, this is the way to go if you don't want to go VFD. Would be interesting to know why there isn't a direct hookup to the ESC for computer speed control, that seems like a bit of an oversight at this point but maybe it's slated for a V2, or maybe there's a simple DIY method of tapping into the potentiometer (if the dial actually is) and replacing it with PWM or analogue.
@Mark Carew are you going to make the sleeves available to purchase separately? I'm assuming I'll need one for the Kent dust shoe. I suppose I could 3d print one.
Sweet! I have a suspicion - judging by the looks of the RoütER11 - that the ER11 thingy may fit my Makita! Please say this is true. Also, does this mean there will eventually be an OpenBuilds 65mm spindle mount rather than the sleeve?
Thanks guys we really like this one as well. We made a quick unboxing video of the RoütER11 to kinda go over some of its features, hope it helps to answers some of the questions you may have. The sleeve is included and its aluminum! I think it's very nice Sorry man but this shaft was made for the ER11 collets and collet nut I am seeing one of these mounts from OpenBuilds in the future but I have to say it's really nice to just get it and put it in place with the sleeve and get back to making.
@Mark Carew I need more than one sleeve though. Need one for the dust shoe and one for my extra spindle mount (I'm running two on my machine)
ahh I see what you mean I'm guessing you could always cut a ring out of a piece of acrylic that would go from the 71mm down to the 65mm. I think the parts store will start carrying these sleeves as well
That sleeve would be great. I have a 65 mm Chinese spindle mount for my current Makita on my CNC router, but I would really like to get the OB mounts and sleeve. That would give me better options for a custom dust collection and air blowing mounts.
Just got mine. The sleeve doesnt sit all the way down. Hits the corner blocks. I could have had it sit above the mount a bit, but it was hard to tram the router. 10 seconds on my belt grinder fixed it. Before: After:
Received mine the other day! Promptly ordered a set of ER11 nuts! ($11 on amazon for 4) The spring collets need to be clicked into the nut before using, don't install them like in the video! Cheers Gary
I just ran the first job. It did great. Flew through some walnut with no problems. Better finish for sure. It will take some getting used to the noise of the motor adjusting to maintain speed through rough cuts. My only gripe is that it doesnt have an LED to light up the cut. I'll have to dig out my ring light that I never installed.
Question for those who have used the Router11: does this thing blow air out the bottom like a regular router? If yes, do you think there is room between the exhaust ports and collet nut to mount a deflector to redirect the air? I really want one of these puppies, but my primary application is grinding glass in a water bath. Thanks for any info.
Yes it has a fan exhausting to the bottom, I could get some pics with a rule near the pointy end tomorrow
As @sharmstr posted the great tip above on notching the reduction sleeve to mount the sleeve flat where it hits the black angled corner connectors in certain mounting configurations. We wanted to share this video for another way to do this for machines like the LEAD 1010 where the router mount is not mounted directly to the gantry plate. Both ways will work fine and maybe in the future with this feedback we will see pre-notched reduction sleeves. Thanks guys hope this helps
I'm really loving this router. But, the fan is so strong that it would blow chips out the back of dust shoe. My shop vac couldnt handle it. I designed another version of the adapter that diverts most of the air coming from the fan directly towards the hose. There's still some air that clears chips from the cutting area which is nice.
