Hi there, I've been stuck with this issue for the last 2 weeks and for the life of me can't seem to figure it out. The y-axis is acting up. It screeches, vibrates, sometimes it jams... It just won't play nicely! I'm jogging at 5000mm/min. Things I've tried Checked wiring Dry-lubed lead screws Tensioned lead screws My machine Workbee 1515 (lead screw) Blackbox
Start by slowing down! Go all the way back down to 2500 mm/min and let us know if you still have the problems. Alex.
That last video looked like one motor did not turn. Are there loose wires? I have had some thing similar happen when the gantry got out of square due to a crash. I forgot to re-square it and it would bind up while running.
Hey guys, thanks for getting back to me. Sorry for the delay in my response, I only get to work on this over the weekends. @Alex Chambers I gave that a shot and yeah it does help, so far. Any ideas on what typical speeds might be for a lead screw 1515? I'd ideally like to figure out the root cause, especially if you can expect higher performance from your machine. @Giarc That's actually a great thought! I do remember having some strife with one of the grub screws binding the lead screw and the stepper shaft. I'll spend tomorrow trouble shooting that and report back what I find! Noob question... is 5000mm/min jog speed generally considered to be too fast? Running a 1515 lead screw workbee. Thanks again for the suggestions!
@Giarc that was it! I had a grub screw that wasn't binding the lead screw properly. Popped down to the hardware, replaced it and 5000mm/min seems to be working just fine for now! Although I might take Alex's advice and keep it a bit lower than that. Thanks all, hopefully I won't be back on this thread for a while
5000 mm/min should be achievable (for rapid moves - cutting is a different story). I suggested slowing down to give you a chance to see what might be happening. Glad you are sorted. Alex.
Hi, I have the same issue as P. Abraham, do I have to take part of the machine apart to square it back?
Turn off all power, unplug the motors, and turn the screws by hand until it is close to square. Then repower everything, jog it to the front of the machine, adjust as necessary by hand (no power) until it is square.
I tried that and It still looks that my y axis blocks on the right side. My number 6 on the picture starts fine but then blocks and my machine goes out of control.
From the picture I'd say 1) Check grubscrews on motor and leadscrew sides both: A little locktite helps, make sure setscrews on motor is on the Flat side of the D-shaped motor shaft 2) Check wiring, intermittent connection fault will also cause motor to do that. Sorry to ask, I can speak and write english but my native language is french. What are grubscrews? I looked on the Openbuilds part but they don't list that.
