Hi Guys... I have finally started working on my own Ox variant and wanted to check no one else has already started using the name Fox or Foxy for their design. I have had a little look but did not come across any thing but would like to check first... A running list with links to each build could be nifty.... I would be happy to update this post with a running list if any one wants to be included just post up. Fingers crossed fox is free if so ... I call SHOTGUN!!!!

Go for it! Just make sure you talk about it a bit, so everyone knows you've layed claim to it. It's pretty much first come first served. Me? I'm going to call mine, "The CNC Machine" It shows great imagination and it rolls off the tongue. Gray
I was wondering if it would help in the naming process by breaking ox down into genus and species. Genus appears to be Bos but there were two choices for species, Bos indicus and Bos taurus. I believe most have been trying to achieve Bos taurus but in reading some of the build descriptions I fear some have achieved Bos indicus which is identified by a distinctive hump. Another thought was potential naming variations based on regional and linguistic variations. Down under an ox might be referred to as a bullock (something that is not easily engraved on the side plates). Or in non-English speaking countries could be referred to as a buey, ochse, bò or maksai. Ultimately however after reading up on the genus and species and all the cultural variations, there is one commonality that began to disturb me. And that one commonality..... no matter what you call them and no matter how strong, how durable, how much endless work they can perform, at some point in order to become an ox... they were all castrated. (ouch)
It looks like we may be making a smaller, beefy version similar to the original OX, but stiffer overall, to do mainly aluminum pieces, and so it will need a name.... I would like to lay claim o "HardKnOX" We now return to your regularly scheduled program: "As the Stomach Turns"
Well, a few months back I have coined the variation : PoleOX (yet to be designed, even on 'paper'). It would do totem pole type carving ... think 2.5D graffiti of telephone poles ! More recently, I have used the term : rOX - meaning a reference OX, mostly the original OX with some myOX aspects thrown in as the basis for the OXcalculator - the BoM and such calculator. OXlay could be a part picker/placer as with laying SMD on circuit boards ?
Well it's got a fair amount of ball bearings..... so Ball-OX? I'm thinking "HydrOX CNC" Hydra: Meaning multi headed serpent in Greek mythology - Since I'm attempting a Laser/3D Printer/Spindle, multi headed OX, I think that fits well.
I am not yet building. I'm gathering intelligence, information and knowledge on the internet and scratching ideas on the paper (Yup, that's my SketchUp. Just paper and pencil.) This might become a process of a few years (also due lack of money). I would like to reserve "Volvox Atlanta". Van Oord, a world leader in dredging and marine engineering, has a series of Volvox-named ships in their fleet. A few of those ships were part of the construction of the Palm Islands and The World Islands near Dubay. Engineering in an ever changing world. The second part "Atlanta" is the name of a travel organisation. They arrange lots of trips through Europe with Volkswagen Transporter vans and tents. Their way of camping/travelling is out of the box and leaves an experience that you'll never forget. I hope the engineering, building and learning of the "Volvox Atlanta" project will give me a basic experience in electronics, mechatronics and programming. I've still one question though: what's the story behind the name "OX"?
