Looking for suggestion on the best economical software for 3d carving. I am using a lead 1010 machine.
I use Fusion for everything but I wouldn't recommend it for 3D carving. It isn't friendly with STL files and has a 50k "face" limit. There are workarounds but I've read Vectric is easier and as you're asking economical. Again, this is specifically for 3D carving.
I have tried other software and honestly, Vectric Vcarve Desktop is well worth the price. If you ever want to upgrade to VCarve Pro, you just pay the difference in price. I can import an .stl file into my work stock and have the tool paths generated in under 5 minutes now that I have done a few. Here is a recent one I did to make a beer tap from an .stl file I found here: 3D Printable Star Wars Death Trooper by Paul Braddock
This looks great, @Giarc . Curious, do you use pro or desktop and why? For the storm trooper head how many toolpaths did you use for one side? I'm considering jumping ship from Fusion just for the simplicity.
Desktop. I did not think I would need to cut larger than the 25" restriction. If I do need to, I can use tool path tiling. I figured I can upgrade if needed for the difference in price.
