Hi guys Everything has been running smoothly then updated to latest version v1.0.280. Now when I run the xyz probe it doesn't stop on z. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks
Obvious question, since Z is probed first, did you verify that you have continuity between the bit and the probe plate?

What grbl profile? Once unit was set up I followed the video for the software portion and installed the openbuilds 1515 settings that was provided. What is the steps mm I need?
You mention: Are you are aware there are two applications: OpenBuilds CAM and OpenBuilds CONTROL? As you mention CAM above I assume you only did one, so did you do: (from CONTROL, not from CAM) Next, regarding you use the tools provided to check and calibrate it: So to reiterate: Open OpenBuildsCONTROL (don’t forget to connect) Go to Grbl Settings tab Load the profile for the machine you have, don’t forget to hit Save and Reset Then fine tune and test calibration from Wizards and Tools > Calibration (do all axes)
is the fine tune you are talking about just homing or is it something else? i am sorry i am a newbie and never did much with this stuff and computers.
ok I did all of the above. I reset everything to factory. redid all settings for the lead 1515. Ran homing. loaded grbl for the piece i was doing. did the homing and it still cut to far above. Went and did the fine tuning like you said in settings did all xyz. started the homing and it started to home in wrong direction opposite the switches. ended up resetting everything to factory. and redid home and it worked properly. the jogging works in the correct position but it still cuts air.
I did the homing button the the openbuilds software . Once that was done I jogged it up so I could set the workpiece in place then did the probing. It probed like it should then when I went to run it it went above the workpiece towards the center of the board to be cut. I followed the advice above on fine tuning xyz but doing that caused the machine home in wrong direction. I didnt change any settings that would cause travel to reverse.
Is this the same question asked on Facebook? If so, I believe it was because the tool paths generated with OpenBuilds CAM were generated for an engraving of words that were way "above" the XY zero point in the CAM workspace. So after setting the XYZ zero on the work piece, the tool path sent the router way past the work piece and air cut the carving. By "above" I believe he means past the work piece in the +Y direction. These are photos from the same (or similar) query in Facebook to help explain in case anyone else is having a similar question. The photos help explain the issue better. Someone smarter than me please check my advice at the end of this to be sure I did not steer him wrong. Here is where it is trying to cut "above" (Y+ direction): Here is where the design was laid out in CAM (way up in the Y+ direction): Here is a shot of his OpenBuilds control showing he successfully set XYZ zero with the probe. Note the long green line where it moves quite a ways in the Y + direction before it tries to engrave: I suggested -- by making a quick drawing in CAM-- the following: "What you could try is make a box in CAM that starts at the XY 0 point the size you want the finished product to be and center the writing in it and regenerate your gcode. Or just move the letters down to the XY 0 point in the CAM software. If done like this, You know where the letters will be cut on your work stock and you will no longer be cutting air. I just threw arbitrary numbers up for illustrative purposes. I used a 100 by 500 mm "board" (the rectangle) and roughly centered the letters."
I didnt get to test it yet but I was unaware that wouldve been the issue. I assumed the probing on the piece would set everything to do the cut in the area I wanted.
It did, but the software is not clever enough to know that you only want to cut the letters - it takes the point you set in your cam software (the ORIGIN) and assumes that you will set the workplace zero on your machine in exactly the same place. Alex.
