After the second time my drag chain got snagged on the gantry and forced my Y out of square I decided to apply the fix I thought of after the first time it happened. Thought I would share my quick fix for others if you have the same issue. Basically I cut a piece of HDPE to fit the slot in the V rail and held it in place with a single drop in T nut. A the top it holds the chain slightly outword so it cant turn into the gantry and at the bottom it keeps the chain from getting under the V rail.
I'm using the mounting bracket provided with the Kit. It only allows for a single mounting screw so the chain can pivot easily on a single point, even when tightened. What causes the chain to pivot inward I can't say but there is just enough space for the drag chain to get pinched under the V rail. I haven't changed the mounting, simply added a piece to prevent it from pivoting inward.
Looks like the other end of the chain is too far away, you can mount the end on the table at almost the mid point of the travel so the chain is never stretched out that much. Cheers Gary
Yep, a centrally mounted 1m chain should reach all parts of a 1500mm axis. Also, drag chain should be in a tray guide; while it has some rigidity it's not generally intended to be used loose.
Both ends are mounted as per the instruction - didn't like the fact there was only a single mounting point at each end. A slightly larger "L" bracket at the front end would enable me to use both mounting holes in the chain, which would also prevent the chain from traveling inward. I thought about the Track Idea, but this was quick and simple - it works.
