How much weight can it handle? As I already stated in the discussion of the v-slot-workbench, here, there must be some concern due to the fact that the forces that hold the wooden plates are just the friction between M5 low profile screws and the rails. Probably holes in the rails would solve this issue, making such build much stronger, but this suggests either drilling them or waiting for new kind of v-slot rails that include holes.

 

I know that the 80/20 version of those handles are spring loaded and have detents. That way if it is in a tight corner, they can be pressed in and turned without turning the screw. Also the can be pointed away from the user once everything is tight.

 

My adjustable desk plans aren't as cool as an extrusion desk and would be manually operated. A couple of scissor jacks as the lift mechanism and a couple of bicycle gears and chain to operate the jacks. I found a scissor jack that has a 24 inch lift and way more lifting capacity than a desk would need.

I'd like to build a standing desk/shelf for my PC at home. I have been standing at work since 2008 so am used to it all day.
While I don't need to alternate from standing to sitting, I would like it to be adjustable to lower if my kids want to use my PC.

I took some measurements of both myself and my 32" display:
Insignia™ - 32 inch Class (31-1/2 inch Diag.) - LED - 720p - 60Hz - HDTV

Display:
35" diagonally
22" vertically
31" horizontally
Base: 7" D

Me: 5'7"
Eye Level: 5'2"
Elbow Level - 41.25 inches
Minimum distance between screen and eyes = 30" (2.5 feet)

Because of the size of the TV and the fact that your eyes are supposed to be at the top of the display when looking straight ahead, I was thinking the TV (with the base on) would be on the same surface as my mouse and keyboard.
However, I really like the idea of it being mounted on an "arm" of some kind so that I can adjust its height or angle.

I like these ideas:
A pull-out tray for the mouse and keyboard.
A bottom shelf of some kind for my PC tower as I do not want it on the carpet floor.
It to be on carpet casters for when I want to move and rotate it to watch TV while using my treadmill.

I know my living room may look too small for this however I am willing to remove/relocate the coffee table and re-arrange the furniture to make room. I also have a folding treadmill not shown in the pictures (reinforcing the fact that I like to stand/walk while doing things).

I understand if all of my ideas cannot be done or are outside the scope of what OpenBuilds can do, however, I am very interested in knowing how much can be.

I only issue is that I have poor design imagination making it very difficult for me to visualize what this would look like.
