Finally got around to hooking up the laser and figured out how to get it all going. Still have some experimenting to do with settings, etc. but overall, it worked as advertised. This is the PLH3D-2W using the Black Box controller. I generated the code for this with the Openbuilds CAM G-code generator. I did try some lettering with Vcarve Pro. Need to adjust some settings and that should work as well. It was a pretty simple setup after reading all the instructions.
do you have a link to the model you purchased? Were you able to use the existing power supply on your CNC or did you need to install an 2nd one for the Laser? also are you happy with the power (2W?)
Hello Quentin, I purchased the laser using the link from the Openbuilds parts store. Search for diode laser, then select the Opt laser. It will take you to the site. It shipped from Poland but I received it in a week. Shipping was $33 for Fedex, but that wasn't so bad once I saw where it was coming from. I did use my existing 12 volt power supply. I can run either the router or the laser, just not at the same time, which I wouldn't do anyway. I added a small plywood mounting board on the front of my cnc router mount. 2 screws and it is removed. I may make something better for mounting but this works. I only plan to do engraving with it, so yes, the power is fine. I have a Neje 7w that I use for engraving my pens. Once I figure out the fine tuning of the Opt laser (power, speed, burn time), I think I will find it as good as or better than the Neje. My biggest reason for getting it is the work area I now have. The Neje is limited to a 5"x5" area. I'm going to experiment with some lettering tonight. I'll post a picture when it's done.
