I'm new to forum but been cutting with an old OX for about a year. It was used cnc router machine and has the updated lead screws. I cut allot of thin lexan and notice the router lifts when plunging holes. Also I'm getting a lot of chatter when cutting .125 KYDEX. I can hoId down on router and it helps. I was checking the wheels to see if I could adjust but that didn't help. So I thought I would replace them the wheels on the Z ganty with new ones. When I took it apart I notice there was a broken 3D printed part. It don't look like it would cause problem. This 3D print part hold the anti back slash for the Y and doesn't look heavy enough. I do want to cut carbon fiber and would like to beef it up. Has anyone ran into this problem ?
The problem with OX builds is there is no specific kit and no specific construction standards. Everyone built based on a published concept but everyone built as they saw fit. If you've got weakness and 3D printed parts you didn't get a very good build. Whoever built it strayed from proper workmanship and best practices making it very difficult to offer suggestions on how to make it better. All I can suggest is take some very detailed pictures and show us what you have to work with.
I agree with Rick, look at the current builds like the LEAD and Workbee and modify yours to be more like them, at some point you will be able to use the machine to make its own new parts to make it even better (-:
I like my Ox HD no plans on changing it, dual belts was the key for me, much better than stretchy unsupported belts. The HD has 80x40 gantry and C beam Z. The problem with the anti backlash nut holder is a normal issue, many ways to solve it, I ended up with a shim made out of some plastic sheet I found the correct thickness. Cheers Gary
No problem, figured out a way to do away from from that printed part with a good solid pc of oak. My machine works very good till I crashed to many times with z. My son came over and got more help from him then of this forum. We lowered the machine and raised spoil board because I don’t need much travel with what I use it for. I cut sheet of lexan stacked 2 high. I also cut 1/8 plastic. Want to cut carbon fiber sometime. I may have to look at updated my machine. This is what I built.
Very hard to help you when you do not supply the pictures of the machine Rick asked for, so it was much easier for your son who could see what was going on. I don't believe you have grounds for complaint.
