    Hey gang,
I have an early model CNC3040Z that I've done some beefy upgrades to, including beefing up the gantry with 6mm steel plate, 2.5N.m steppers on X and Y and a 1.5kW spindle.
I'm thinking of replacing the extruded aluminium bed with a 15mm mild steel plate. I'd then mark and drill a 50mm grid which I would drill and tap with M6 holes. (That would also allow it to be converted to a vacuum table at a later time.)

I'd love some input on the idea, espcially if anyone has any suggestions.

    Cheers!
    Dax Liniere.

    Hi Dax,
Overkill for that machine probably, but if you got it already then go for it, wont hurt!
    Cheers

Thanks Gary. I decided to buy a sheet of 15mm, mainly because I want to face it on a Bridgeport mill and tap it for M6 mounting threads. I may also cut T-slot channels on each of the sides for improved workholding positions, though I'm going to give it a good run with 50mm spacings first.
This thing is fast becoming a tank!
