    Has anyone thought about mounting the z stepper to the center of the crossbar (the beam that supports the hot end) then connecting a nut to the side of the extrusion that connects the two towers (z axis supports) then lettings the acme screw go out the top of the unit. If you are worried about a side to side motion of the screw a bearing could be added to resist this.

    Sagging of the crossbar, see 8:08 minutes:


    Instead of trying to fix a unlevel crossbar, why not implement auto bed levelling using a servo and microswitch?
    All sagging will be compensated then.
