Is this considered a shorter version of a 1515? if later on you want to turn it into a 4x4 is that a possibility? what modle number is this?

Yes, the frame members should have been 722mm or just shy of 28-7/16"

Yes, and with a couple of simple adjustments it will do 22.5" x 48" which means it'll almost do an 8 foot sheet, 2 feet at a time.
    Yes
Was a custom request. If you wish to make a similar request contact the shop as noted above.

I am new to CNC routers, I currently have a BOSS Laser and want to venture out to a CNC router. looking at Openbuild 1515 loaded.

I notice there is no phone number to call anyone at Openbuild, or showroom to go look at the equipment, they have been answering my questions via email. I am trying to find out what loaded means if this includes the hand held interface controller and everything else I need to build it and start running projects with the exception of the spoiler board.

I am looking at the 4X4, however knowing there is also a 2X4 I am wondering what the price difference is and if it would be worth starting with a 2X4 and later expanding to a 4X4, not sure what it would take to expand.

I am also having some concerns trying to find out is the 1515 4X2 or 4X4 handles a full 48" width sheet (the standard with of plywood material).

Thank you for any advice or suggestions.

Yes, Fully Loaded is the machine and all the accessories. The store page has a comprehensive listing. See LEAD CNC Machine 1515 FULLY LOADED!

Yes it does. You can slide through a full sheet working on half at a time using the Tiling feature in Vectric's CAM

Thank you, I assume I can also connect my computer through the black box?

Do I have to buy the dust collector and shield separately?

OpenBuilds is a small business and 24/7 phone support and fancy showrooms are just not viable. Product support/questions is handled through email with the OpenBuilds parts store and technical questions/how-to's are handled through the forum. This may seem awkward but the system actually works very well.
Everything included is shown in the description. Which is essentially everything but bits and the spoiler board.
There isn't really a 2x4 model, this was a one-off created as a customer request. As the systems is fully modular the cost of a later expansion is fairly simple to determine. You'll need (2) 1500mm C-Beam 40x80 Linear Rail Aluminum Extrusion Profile (openbuildspartstore.com), (2) 1540mm 8mm Metric Acme Lead Screw - OpenBuilds Part Store, and (4) 1500mm V-Slot 20x40 Linear Rail Aluminum Extrusion Profile (openbuildspartstore.com) cut to 1472mm.
It will fit the 48" width no problem but as the description of the stock configuration shows, it'll only cut 46" wide. This limitation is easily overcome though by raising the vertical X-gantry members 23mm which allows the X-gantry to pass above the Y-axis carriages. This allows for the full 48" cutting width desired. (You may also want to slide the Z-axis framing down 23mm to compensate for raising the gantry.)

Hey guys! Installing the drag chains and assuming the Y-axis needs to be trimmed down a bit to fit the custom size?

Making progress!! Setting up the Control Software now and curious if I need to make any changes to Y axis max travel length or any other parameter changes to fit the custom size?

Welp, just ran into an issue.. Y and Z axis work fine, but the X lead screw is likely bound. When I try to jog, the lead screw doesn't turn, but the motor is certainly trying.. During assembly, when I threaded the lead screw through the plastic bearing it seemed there was much more resistance than the other axes. I tried re-tensioning but she still locked up..

Just divide the default 1270mm / 2 to get 635mm?

No. More like 1270 - 750 = 520. But you should be able to get more than that. Jog it around a bit to see what your actual window is.

Re the X axis, power off, disconnect and remove motor from leadscrew, disconnect any lock collars so you can slide the X gantry completely to one side with the leadscrew sticking out. Lubricate the leadscrew with dry ptfe or silicone spray, grip the leadscrew with a portable drill and run the leadscrew back and forth until it runs freely.
    Alex.

Gotcha, will do. Just need to get X figured out.. Going to try disconnecting the motor and turning the lead by hand to seat the bearing..

It's alive!! Took me two tries, but finally wore the block in enough to shoot back and forth without issue. First time I tried, the gantry would move a couple inches than cut out again; disassembled and ran the lead screw in and out for several minutes.

You guys are great, thanks so much for the incredibly fast responses!!

Hey everyone! Workin on getting the interface setup and when I try to update the firmware I get an error [Unable to check for updates] [Server error 0x002] then shoots me back to the Tools and Utility screen.
When I reset, I get 6/Firmware [unable to check]
I've tried resetting the Wifi several times and never had a problem connecting. The interface is on my network, has green wifi indicators and appears to be connected..
    Any ideas on troubleshooting?

Also, what is the 'dongle' ICSP used for? Didn't really see a place to plug it in

Got it! Installed the current firmware version to the thumb drive, transferred drive to Interface and updated going that route. Once the firmware was updated from the thumb drive, I went to Tools / Utilities and was able to check/update over Wifi just fine. Says up to date! when I check for further updates..

Made my first cut yesterday!! Everything performed great!! Need to run the job from the interface, but after that I'd say she's complete!! Will post some pictures in the days to come.

Any suggestions on next steps and/or additional learning paths? Need to dive into Fusion, but wasn't sure if there is anything else I need to look into ahead of time.

Also struggling to find a clamping solution for the v-slot; seems like most everything available is for a 3/8 T-slot.. I found a printed clamp, but I don't have access to a 3D printer as of yet. Any ideas or resources here?

Lastly, what's the best way to send job files to the CNC? Read a few threads yesterday where folks either copied it to the flash drive, or logged in via the interface IP address. May have overlooked this in the documentation, but I feel like I'm missing something :(

As always, thanks everyone for the help along this adventure! Absolutely loved every bit of the build and learned so much along the way!!
