Hello All - I'm wondering what the pc requirements for running OpenBuilds Control software. Using BlackBox and Interface. Thanks!
Hey Peter! Thanks again for the support. I'm currently using an I5 laptop to control things...issue is having all the cables coming off the sides of the laptop. Ofcoarse you have to have these cable, but I came across Mini PC's. So I was thinking of mounting a Mini PC with the BlackBox/24V Power Supply all together in a neat group. Only external cables would be for a touchscreen monitor and USB hub routed to the front of the CNC. What do you think, would a Mini PC work?!?! And any suggestions on which one to look for? Thanks again
Post a link then we can check - the insides of those are widely varied so would need the specific details Of course an even cleaner solution is the Interface? No PC needed near the machine - sounds like you have the Interface already?
Yes I have the Interface and its an awsome tool...But there's a few issues / things I don't like about the Interface, so I'm leaning towards OB Control for my 1Meter x 1Meter CNC Router build. I'll look into some of the mini PC's and post their specs for review
Here's a model I'm interested in. MeLE PCG35 WiFi 6 Fanless Mini PC Computer Specs: Max Screen Resolution 4096x2160 Operating System Windows11 Pro Processor 2 GHz Celeron RAM 8 GB LBDDR4 Memory Speed 2933 MHz Hard Drive 128GB SSD Graphics Coprocessor Intel UHD Graphics Chipset Brand Intel Wireless Type 802.11ax Number of USB 2.0 Ports 2 Number of USB 3.0 Ports 2 There are many different configurations and models to choose from. Im not really interested in the 3d viewing in the Control software, it's probably the largest resource user, right? Most of the mini PC's in the price range I'm looking at use the Celeron CPU.
Correct, and can be disabled from the Troubleshooting menu should you need to Celerons can be quite slow... just a heads up on that Doesn't say which - so can't confirm. If you can get it in a way that you can return it if it doesn't work for you - you can give it a try
In quick review of the Mini PC's the price almost doubles from Celeron to I5 CPU's I can't imagine the price of the I7 versions... Laptop is probably the most commonly used. The Con to that is the constant plugging/unplugging of cables and thumb drives. My current laptop's connectors getting very loose causing issues.
Then don't Setup network shares so you don't need flashdrives. Other cables need never be unplugged And a USB Hub still helps too
LOL! Very true, that's exactly what I want to do. Network shares definitly will happen. My laptop is used for other activities so it moves around quite a bit. Thanks again.
I came across in storage a Dell Optiplex 780 Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop / 4Gb Ram would this work with OB Control software?
in that case.... maybe a dock is better, a single plug to do everything including power the laptop (if it has USB-C power input) https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Universal-Laptop-Docking-Station-Dual-Monitor-2-Hdmi/dp/B00ECDM78E
