Hello. I have a favor for anyone out there as I need help and am overwhelmed on how to start. I stumbled on your site as I am researching how to make a DIY router for making acoustic guitars. I know there is a ton of stuff and potential from the parts store, and based on the routers that I see, this project would be VERY easy for you guys in the forum. Guitar store sites sell them from $200-300+ The machine is simple: a router on a vertical track that doesn't need to be controlled by any computers/motors, etc. I have a Dewalt 611 router and need to attach a nylon router bearing. It would be great if the base has a surface to be able to clamp it to a work bench. I've attached pictures. Again, overwhelmed about where to start. Can anyone spec out a build list on what exact parts are needed to complete this simple project or suggest the main components to use? Vtrack? Ctrack?
It's a very simple thing to build, and here's a good place to start: My 1st Guitar Build: A Les Paul... (duh)! All you need is a L-shaped base for your router, the "doughnut" that follows the carved top's contours, a drawer slide or two (or a linear guide if you're feeling like spending more, which you probably are not since you're hoping to copy the fancier Stewmac version) and a base to mount the whole thing on a surface. Or just buy a gantry cart, a fitting extrusion, a router mount and a couple of corner brackets from the OB store, a shelf mount from a hardware store, make the doughnut and assemble.
Thanks. I actually did want to use a lot of the parts from the OpenBuild parts store like a Gantry, router mount and V-Slot. not sure if something would need more heft by using a C-Track or an open rail. Also, not sure if anybody had any ideas for attaching a doughnut.
I am building the same thing with a Dewalt 611. I do have a way to make the donuts as well. Did you ever finish yours? If so, do you have pictures?
