In another thread Peter suggested the use of an xyz probe as a TLO probe and I started thinking about that idea and how you might use it without having to attach the magnet every time. I spent a bit of time and modeled up a spring loaded platform for my xyz probe to sit on, like this. There is an aluminum base with bolt holes and pockets for springs. An acrylic holder for the xyz probe to sit on. There is a stud sitting just below the top of the acrylic for the xyz plate to make contact with. and a bolt to attach the magnet. Here is a quick video of the first test I believe that if I fine tune the length of the contact stud and set a fixed position I can then do some repeatability testing. My thinking is that if the macro I use to measure the TLO puts the tool in the center of the plate this should be repeatable.
