Hi Folks, Received my new openbuilds XYZ Probe and connected ok. First probe worked fine and all good. However any subsequent probe the probe moves to the center of the probe but the Z travel wants to go past the top of the probe plate. I have to quickly abort. What am I doing wrong?
Make sure your connection is good before running the probe job. Common problem is not having the magnet on the flat of the collet nut. Attach the magnet, lift the plate up to the bit and verify that the green lights are lit on the probe plate.
I'm having a similar issue. The green LEDs light up, but the z travel doesn't stop and i have to abort every time... Any suggestions?
Good clean electical connections throughout. Clean collet nut, clean endmill, some endmills have coatings, where you placed the magnet, etc. Signal wire terminals checked , etc. Do not test by probing, use the Troubleshooting tab - much safer
after posting I went through many of those. I verified all electrical connections between the Black Box and the XYZ probe plus. the collet nut is clean, and the endmill is a brand new sharkbit (i have tried 3 different bits now). I have tried placing the magnet on the endmill shank, and on the collet nut. The part that confuses me most is that the green LEDs come on, but that seems to be it. I did notice that there appears to be 6 LEDs but only 5 light up. I don't know if that is an indication of anything... I will refer to the troubleshooting again and see if I missed something.
Even though the lights come on (just shows you have power) doesn't mean the signal makes its way back to the controller (wiring there could be loose or wrong). The Troubleshooting tab in CONTROL shows whether the signal got to Grbl. Here you can test touching magnet to plate, bridging SIG to GND, etc to determine where the issue is.
Peter, Thank you for your help so far. I used my multimeter last night and checked continuity, and resistance between both ends of the wires with the plug installed. GND, PWR, and SIG all have good continuity from plug to plug, and the resistance seems normal for 22AWG wire across all 3 as well. As stated before, the lights come on when the magnet is placed directly on the plate, as well as when it is placed on the bit and then the plate is touched to the bit. There is a "probe" light on the side of the black box that turns on when contact is made either directly, or through the bit. In the control software on the troubleshooting tab the status of the probe indication never changes with contact of any kind. I have checked multiple times to make sure that everything is plugged in well, and I seperated the wire for the probe from everything else. I plan to get a pack of ferrite chokes, but those will take a few days to get here... Any other suggestions in the meantime?
That indicates more of a problem maybe with the BlackBox. Wire two wires to SIG and GND (NB careful, nothing to V+) and touch them together while watching troubleshooting tab. Ie eliminate probe, test just the Port on the BlackBox If it doesn't change, speak to http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home and they will sort you out
Thank You! I will give that a try when I get home from work this afternoon. I really appreciate your help on this!
If you are having the same exact issue, then do the same test as decribed above to see where the issue may be and follow those instructions: Submit a ticket
I have performed all the tests mentioned above with no resolution. My wires are fine, get green lights on probe and blackbox, as well as a triggered indication in the troubleshooting. while trying to perform XYZ probe I encounter one of the following issues: -its either not responding/performing probe task at all (i clear alarm and receive Error-1) followed by "probe complete" window -responds but needs to be aborted because it wants to press down further than the touch plate on z axis probe -performs (z axis) but stops and does not continue to x/y probing
Sounds to me like you skipped over step 7.1 (7.2 relates) and possibly also step 4.2 of the BlackBox X32 Documentation when you were working through the docs during initial setup. Check out the mentioned sections and ensure you follow the documentation.
Thank you for replying! You were indeed correct! Firmware needed to be flashed and updated. Much appreciated!
