I'm new to the open builds C beam architecture and I'm curious as to when having two vs one XL gantry plate is necessary. Many of the builds I see have two gantry plates sandwiching around a C beam. Does this always need to be the case or can one plate be sufficient depending on the load requirements?
On the X-axis gantry it is generally done to keep cuttings from fouling the lead screw. On the Y-axis gantries it helps stiffen the wheel axles, reducing deflection. How much of a difference it makes though is hard to say.
Thanks for the response. Ok, sounds like it might be a learning process. I have two linear actuators coming in with single gantry plates so Ill be able to evaluate the sturyness for my use case. Good news is if the single plate isn't enough, I can always just buy more plates and wheels.
