Im hoping someone might be able to diagnose what im experiencing here. I am practicing inlays on my lead 1515 .. the numbers in Vectric are right as far as i can tell. I'm flattening the practice pieces in place prior to carving. every time i get huge gaps in the same places. bottom right corner, and top left. the depths of the different pieces are written on the finished piece in the photos. i have a growing concern that the machine isnt calibrated properly and that maybe that is whats causeing these deviations. I figured that someone in these forums might have come across the same problem
well i use the vector tool to flip the image horizontally and then adding a boarder around that and using all the same bits .. not sure if that answers your question
First thought was that it might be an issue with rigidity but rigidity wouldn't cause overcarve. But then the next thought was maybe it's not overcarve but undercarve of the adjacent area. If you would, please attempt this carve again except do it as close to the corner of the machine as possible where the system is at its stiffest. Also grab hold of the spindle when you have it near the corner and give it a good shake to see if you have any flex or looseness whatsoever. Another experiment to try would be carving a couple perfect circles and perfect squares. 4" should be sufficient. And then use digital calipers to verify accuracy. And on the square, measure not only side to side by corner to corner too. Even if these two suggestions don't solve the problem they may lead us closer to it.
I just put a new spoilboard down and had it surfaced .. running some practice peices now .. if it’s still noticeably out in the same places I’m considering there might be an issue with the settings in Open Builds controller /software Is there a better control(Gcode) software that would be more accurate than OpenBuilds Gcode software. I’d be willing to spend money if it tightens up my projects precision
No because Control has nothing to do with it. All it does is send the commands to the controller. It makes no decisions on how to cut your part.
