    Hello,
I have been out of the game for a while. I built a new shop and moved my CNC machine here and I am using a new computer. my machine is up and running. I re flattened my spoil board no problem. I re doing an old project to help me re learn. I am using the Open Builds Probe. I keep getting an error and not sure what to do.

Hopefully the error can be read. If need be I can type it out.
Thanks in advance for some help.
    Cheers
    Peter

At a guess without the error, Running a BlackBox X32, and skipped step 7.1 and 7.2 of the BlackBox documentation?

Either $6 in Grbl Settings is set incorrectly or a wiring short - use the Troubleshooting tab to check

    Hello,
I ran a new wire and still the same problem. I went into trouble shooting and I couldn't see anything. I looked at the Grbl setting for the probe and is is at Disabled. Should i change it to Enable?
    Cheers

    Depends which version you have
    X32: $6=1(Enabled)
    4X: $6=0(Disabled)

If troubleshooting tab isn't reflecting status, you might have skipped the machine profile step completely (which sets reporting options to make Troubleshooting work, and Probe, endstop, etc values)

Did you skip the CONTROL>Grbl Settings>Select a machine from the list step? if so, do that first.

    Hello,
I ordered a Work Bee 3D 1000mm x 1500mm from SPAM. I couldn't get the electronics to work properly and used you black box and Probe. When i told the software what machine I had I used Custom. Should I use the WorkBee 1510 from the list?

CUSTOM sets those too, so perhaps you changed some of the defaults after?
So you have the BlackBox 4X? or the BlackBox X32?

If its the X32, at least make sure

$10=511 (So CONTROL gets correct reports)
$5=7 (So limits are set to be normally open as ours are)
$6=1 (Probe inverted needed for our probe on X32)
    $4=0

The 4X has different settings but based on your symptoms I expect it to be an X32

If those are set correctly and Troubleshooting doesn't reflect probe state when you touch magnet to plate correctly - it has to be wiring

I have the older one not the X32. The wiring has been replaced from the black box to the probe to make sure it wasn't that. The trouble shooter reflects when the probe is connected properly. The led also comes on in the probe.

OK so with the 4X and our probe, set $6=0

To clarify, what happens when you touch magnet to plate? Probe indicator on troubleshooting tab turns from Green to Red?

Self contained, of no value to confirm whether wiring is correct. Troubleshooting tab shows what the controller sees on the far end of the cable.

    Perfect.

So what happens when you clip the Magnet to the Collet? Does it turn Red immediately

    Hi Peter.
When I touch the collet it turns red in a fraction of a second. I am also having another problem that might be related. It happenened once before and then it went away. I did a few small projects and it was fine. When I move the router/spindle it moves fine for the Y and Z . when i try to move X the motor make a growling noise and moves a bit but i will comand it to go right and it goes left. Should I try one of the factory settings instead of custom? Before I moved the machine it worked pefectly. The only thing is that I am now using a different computer to controll things. The open builds controll software might have updated since I used it last? Thanks.
    Cheers
    Peter

Then your spindle Body has a Short to DC GND somewhere: XYZ Probe Plus with VFDs and other ground-loop inducing components

Sort the wiring short / leaky component / etc elsewhere in the system to resolve.

Classic symptom of docs:blackbox-4x:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation]

V1.0.370 is latest, if older, head over to software.openbuilds.com
Not related to any of your issues though, but good to be up to date

Thank-you very much for pointing me into the right directions! The probe I had earth groung connected to machine ground. That fixed the zero problems. For the X axis motor, I went through all of the wiring and I found two loose connections. One X and one Y. Once I fixed those and everything worked properly. Thanks again you were and have been a great help. I have another non related question. I am using the Armana bits for my work. i have loaded their specs into Vetric. I am just wondering what your thoughts on their depth per pass and the feeds. Do you go with what they recommend? I am alway worried that it will hurt the bits.
    Cheers
    Peter

It never hurts to use a couple cheap amazon bits for the learning curve. Less painful when the inevitable breaks happen. Speeds and feeds intuition takes a while to develop. In the early days the override sliders in CONTROL helps dial it in by ear too. You want to make chips not dust. But can hear if you are too aggressive too (chatters and squeals)
