Inaccurate cuts

    Hello! I would appreciate any help in figuring out why my 1515 is not cutting accurately. I've tightened every screw I can think of and run the wizard to measure. I tried to flatten my spoiler board and ended up with lines not a smooth surface... My circles are nowhere near circles and my latest attempt at hexagons were much closer but I am still getting some weird movement (attached a pic for this). Wondering if my spoiler board could be moving and causing the issue, is this possible?

    Hi Jessica, Can be many things, for some background are you using the stock profile for the 1515? with a Blackbox controller?
    After the run is the machine going back to the same start or are you missing steps?
    Could be binding from tight acme screw nuts, can be loose wheels, or wheels too tight causing step loss.
    Do you hear any stuttering of grinding noises during the run?
    Did you try reducing your depth of cut and speed?
    Can you share your cut file?
    You successfully calibrated?
    The lines from flattening can indicate the router needs to be trammed. There are many videos on tramming a router. Visible lines after flattening are a result of the different cut direction but you shouldn't feel much of a step, the step means you need more tramming.

    Thanks, Gary. I am brand new to the CNC world.

    I am using the stock profile with the blackbox controller.
    The machine is going back to the same start - I don't think it is missing steps.
    I will re check the wheels.
    No stuttering or grinding.
    I used the wizard in the OB Control software to measure the travel distance.
    I will search for the videos on tramming a router.

    I will get a cut file later today and share it. I am using Vcarve to create my toolpaths and then importing into Open Builds Control.

    I see you mention you calibrated the machine. To get the most accurate cuts, you should calibrate each axis over as long of a distance you can. If the machine is off by 1mm in 1000mm, you may not notice the error when calibrating at a much shorter distance. So you may be cutting accurately in on axis and not the other which can make circles not be round.

    Were these hexagons all drawn in an evenly spaced pattern, but did not cut as such? Or did you purposefully have more room between them on the left side of the photo?

    Thanks!! I will try the longer distance for sure.

    The hexagons were a trial and the spacing was intentionally random. Just wanted to see how straight the cuts were on the actual tool path.
