I am setting a LaserTree K20 on my ACRO w/ Blackbox X32 and I seem to have gotten myself turned around. From reading the docs it sounds like I can set up the laser module directly to the BlackBox (it runs on 24V/5a and specifies power supply of at least 24v/4a) but currently the connection to the module is 3 lead, not 4. According to the manual there is an additional ground port on the head. Do I need to run a 4th lead to that ground so the PWM connection also has ground? Thanks
Essentially BlackBox provides a 2-wire (GND+SIG) PWM signal (3.3v) Power for the modules comes from either modules own PSU, or if its a 24V module you can grab it from the Meanwell PSU For 3-wire modules, the PSU GND and controller GND is shared on one wire. If its already the BlackBox's PSU they are all one GND so nothing extra needed, but if you are powering module with its own PSU, then yes, GNDs to be joined: See https://docs.openbuilds.com/doku.php?id=docs:blackbox-x32:start sections 3.3.2 and 3.3.3 Do use a thicker cable for V+ and GND to the PSU, the signal is a couple milliAmps, but the module can draw several Amps. Don't undersize the GND
Thanks! Just to make sure I have you correct, I will wire power to the PSU with ground, then only signal through PWM?
If its the same PSU for BlackBox and Module, then yes, just one wire off PWM+ (GND already there from PSU) Always happy to review wiring with clear pictures BEFORE turning on power just in case Just not after the smokes out
Will do! Lastly, what awg do you reccomend for this? I currently have 22 which I assume will be too small for that.
Check how much current laser module draws in their specs and refer https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/dc-wire-size
