I have a Lead 1515 that has a BlackBox x4 and an Interface. I put a VFD on it and was running it with the VFD wire from the VFD to the spindle hanging in the air. The machine was running fine. The reason the wire was in the air was it was what came with it and it was to short to put in the drag chain. Well I got in the new shielded wire and ran it through the drag chain and now I have issues. There is a ground wire that the instructions say don't hook up on the VFD end and now I have a ground wire and the shielding wire with the new cable. I have it hooked together on the spindle side and just hanging in the air on the VFD side. I ran one job this way and on the very last gcode of the program it through an error on the Interface. At the time I didn't think anything of it didn't take notice of the actual error. Just hit cancel. Now when I try to jog the machine with the spindle on the Interface is not responsive or when it does move an axis it moves the wrong one. I can turn off the VFD and the machine works fine. Should I ground the shield/ground wire from the spindle to the frame of the 1515?? Would that fix it or should I just run the VFD wire in the air again?? I'm not controlling the VFD with the Blackbox. Not yet anyway.

    Thanks for any help.

Yes, never run 400hz 3 phase cabling parallel to low voltage signal cabling. It just too extreme, the crosstalk will traverse the shield and then the signal wire is just too close, and parallel for too long a distance

yeah, power wires seperate from signal wires will always be better.
this swing arm will keep the wire out of your way and reduce wear and tear, remember to keep any flexing areas as gentle curves rather than sharp corners.

Thanks for the heads up. Will put the power wire back in the air.

Also review earthing and shielding of that cable, even with distance, it can still be a huge broadcast antenna for electromagnetic interference :)

Yeah...I pulled the wire out of the drag chain and fired it up and still had issues. Only after I disconnected the ground and shield wire did it start working correct. Ran a job and did great.

You do want the spindle body earthed (for protection, CPC/Mains Earth)

Shields are trickier - but do research - usually only connected on one end, for VFDs usually the end of the shield nearest VFD. VFD itself properly earthed too. All in star formation earth (no daisy chains) - speak to your local electrician
